The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines have said their vaccines will be effective against the known mutations as the mutations so far have been in the spike part of the virus that is the target of their vaccines.
But there are 2 problems with that.they have not been tested against the mutations so their statements haven't been proven.Second what if a mutation takes place in another part of the virus and also makes it either more infectious or cause more severe disease. So far the statements really are drug company spin until proven otherwise.

The other problem is we are only getting 10million doses of the Pfizer vaccine. The first are being delivered in March with the supply stretching over the next 6 months-ie the end of September so fits with the October timeline.

The Oxford vaccine though is being produced by CSL.They will no longer be producing the UQ vaccine so hopefully they may speed up the Oxford vaccine.

I suppose it is just political grand standing but at some point they have to realise working together is what the majority of voters want. Or maybe I am wrong and elections will be won in the future based on how hard you are willing to go with lockdowns and border closures .

Coronavirus row erupts between NSW and WA as McGowan Government accused of 'lecturing'
Yes, it’s the silly season of “deputies” and the science of CV19 is a bit above some but perhaps Barilaro should just stick to eradicating koalas for his speciality. :)

QLD’s old policy was 28 days no mystery cases, not ‘locally transmitted cases’.

But that was junked with the last Sydney outbreak.

Now it’s a bit more ‘flexible’...
And amazingly the can meet more than once a month....
Incredible what an election can do.

Anyway people I would say just be patient - we are nearly there. We have trusted the scientists and doctors in Australia and it’s been a good outcome so far.

Like everyone else I want this to be over - I would like to go to my grand daughter’s first birthday party at the end of the month (40 invitees!), without worrying that I am endangering my life or Ms FM is endangering hers (she is immunocompromised as well).
An experiment I learned in first year of Psychology. The closer the rats get to their reward, the faster they run and the more anxious they get. I am like a rat running towards the reward.

Dumb question:

Jobkeeper is winding down and will end in March.
Vaccine roll out begins in March and will require lots of people to work as vaccinators, admin, people to manage appointments, etc.

Why don't they train these people to work in the vaccine program and thereby make it run faster and smoother? Surely with a 2 month lead sufficient training could be done for support staff and have one real doctor onsite to manage and problems that occur?
They need to know that who administers the vaccine is fully aware of what they are doing otherwise we will have another Covid wave as per issues with the Quarantine hotels. However the Govt has been emailing people in the medical area to start their training to administer the Covid vax.

Yes and i feel its unfair as it rewards risky behaviour, and forces those of us in 35-65 age who look after elderly relatives to have to continue the burden of physical distance etc.
Obesity also comes to mind.

The closer the rats get to their reward, the faster they run and the more anxious they get.

There is an unhealthy reliance on the vaccine, so much can go wrong and folks will take it hard if it does

I think it was a remark regarding inner AND western Sydney as a whole.

I agree that the use of the term “innerwest” was extremely misleading and caused angst that wasn’t required. I mean, the innerwest finishes at Crystal St doesn’t it? 😜 I get scared going beyond that point.
That’s what frustrates me with the use of Inner West. I get it refers to the LGA but there is a lot of distance between true Inner West like Balmain or Camperdown and outer ‘Inner West’ like Croydon. Thats a 15 min drive away for me.

To be honest, the vaccine is the only strategy the world has right now.

On the question of what was asked at testing. I was handed a form which said ‘to be completed by Collector’ and a pen. Form asked for name, DOB and contact details, and Medicare number, and whether I had symptoms or close contact.

I was left to complete it and simply handed it over to the collector. No questions were asked of me about what I had written. It was simply folded up and placed in the bag. Wasn’t asked for ID or Medicare card.

Pathology run clinic, not NSW Health.

Might be a dumb question but if someone tests positive to Covid and are removed from their home to go into quarantine who is responsible for cleaning/disinfecting the house. Do the government send a team in or is it up to you to organise?

..and thats more than a tad apocalyptical.. one lousy bullet in the chamber and facing a very resourceful enemy...
Most guvmn'ts will have a fall back position.. plan b.. it will not be nice but they must consider the worst case scenario.
I can "possibly" survive a continuing pandemic.. others should, at the least, consider their options..

How else do you see this playing out in the next two years if there is a vaccine failure?

I have no idea really , I am in the wishin' and hopin' camp with almost everyone else..
There are so many variables, anything can happen and we could (should) consider alternatives

The vaccine is an interesting question. Personally, I'm not factoring it high as I understand that whilst it might protect you from the virus, it doesn't prevent you spreading it. Whilst I obviously don't want to catch an aggressive virus, my primary concern has always been that due to my travels, I could spread it to others.
I can't that a vaccine is going to address my concerns, at least not in the short term. Basically, if a vaccine can cure the border madness, then great, but I'll still be travelling small; avoid people, eat takeaway, drive alone etc, etc. When home, stay home. I've years of backed up jobs in the shed. No need to go anywhere!

I don't think you can say the lockdown in Victoria has given them a stronger economy.

I think you can say that if Victoria had not have gone down the quite strict, but not total lockdown (as many were working, more food shops than just supermarkets were open etc) model, that the economy would have been in far worse shape than it now is.

My age group and health status isnt even on that UK list. The Aus Gov link i posted covers less than UK at this stage, but likely to end up being similar i reckon.

Personally I think we just have to trust that health experts entrusted with the order of vaccination know what they are doing and will have logic for the order, and if we are towards the back of the list then so be it.

And I say that as someone with 3 elderly parents all in their eighties all with health issues including my mother has had silicosis and permanent lung damage and the MIL who goes in for surgery in a fortnight to have the remaining part of her bowel removed due to colon cancer.
