I heard today that SA has a soft border in that people can still come in but rego and address details taken and people are required to self isolate for 14 days. Police at border. So far 28,000 people have arrived since the soft close.

A friend from Adelaide drove to Melbourne on Sunday and she there were no border checks going into Vic but there were coming into SA.

So, would now be isolating for 14 days?

14 new cases in Victoria, no changes to restrictions before Monday
By Rachel Eddie
Another 14 people have been diagnosed with coronavirus in Victoria, taking the total number of cases to 1454.
Thirteen of the new cases are connected to the Cedar Meats cluster.
Premier Daniel Andrews said seven of the new cluster cases were staff at Cedar Meats, while six were close contacts.

Cedar Meats is probably going to keep generating new cases for a while yet as there will be more family and other close contacts who will probably still develop CV19.

That sounds right. We can travel out but have to isolate when we come back.

Re Cedar meats. I heard there were personal relationships in that company with members of the Labor Government. Maybe rumour. But interesting. And that one worker there had a partner who works in an aged care facility.

You can get an exemption when you come back in under certain circumstances. You fill out some paperwork and are allowed to bypass the self isolation if you meet the criteria

Yes, I think attending a funeral was given as an example. As it should be.

Why?

Surely you are not implying that the Government would let "mates" flout rules or similar.

I can't see anyone being that stupid even if a few pollies have breached social distancing, second home type rules and have then had to face the music.

I think that comment was made more in context of why the Dept announced the situation where one school and Nursing Home had a positive but they refused to name the business where scores of people had tested positive. Not so much to do with how those people became positive (eg by flouting social distancing)

Canberra schools are going back from the 18th, phased over 3 weeks with different years going back each week.
They are currently doing online learning with some schools open for students to go to if they aren't able to stay at home.

Other than cafes etc not being open, life in SA is really starting to look more normal. Shops opening up etc and the usual school children drop off and collect busy time.

I see SA is back in the new cases of Covid 19 Club.

South Australia has recorded its first new coronavirus case in two weeks.

A man in his 70s, recently returned from overseas, landed in Adelaide from the United Kingdom on March 20 but was not infectious on the flight.

SA Health says the man’s only symptoms were a loss of taste and smell.

During the state’s coronavirus blitz, he was then tested on May 5 and returned a positive result.

SA Health has reassured South Australians the case was acquired overseas and the man, who is emigrating to Adelaide, had only been in contact with five people since his arrival.

“That might make you feel quite disappointed.... but I reassure you that we don’t have any new cases of community transmission,” chief public health officer Professor Nicola Spurrier said.

Which is why more widespread community testing still needs to be done.

Given that his case was acquired overseas it would be interesting to know how they know that he was not infectious on the flight. Perhaps his symptoms were well before his flight and that period would be when they would presume that his viral loads would have been high enough to have been infectious?

So he just escaped the quarantine issue? While another day of no positives would be a good thing, it serves a reminder to those today who just didn't manage the space. I'd hoped to be able to catch up with baby grandson after so many weeks on Sunday so hope this doesn't stop that. 😞

Well full details are lacking. He may have just stayed positive for a long period of time as some people do. Remember however that being positive does not necessarily mean that you have viral loads high enough to infect another. His symptoms were mild and so most likely he will not have been infectious for some time.

SA held the current streak of no case days. I wonder who has received the baton now - WA, ACT or NT?

Agree to the lack of information. We don’t need names, but as much information as is available.

Definitely WA now. Good luck! The more States that play in this territory of a streak of negative positives (🤪) the sooner Australia can free itself up again.

Well as per your signature, as we now have many more test available we are now in the position to Test, Test Test and this was evidently identified as part of an expansion of the testing program.

The 100,000 test in two weeks expanded Vic program blitz has also been identifying a small number of cases that had not been showing up under the previous testing guidelines.
