Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Just to be clear and fair. Its for 3 days and its because the risk is the UK strain. Happy to comply

It is also because they have gaps in close contacts and contact tracing. They need a circuit breaker to give QH a chance to catch up and especially because this strain spreads faster as well. Anyway, happy I got on a plane out, though back shortly  .

It's ridiculous that the state government has no alternative but a lockdown with one single case identified.

Our state governments are behaving in a manner as though everyone lives off the government money tree. There are real people suffering out there because they, in 10 months, have not created an infrastructure to contain or suppress a minor covid-19 outbreak (remember they are the ones that also insist on elimination)

It's our own (the populations) fault as well in QLD, check ins, social distancing, hygeine practices are very very patchy here.

I'm not at all surprised that there have been holes emerging and they need this to try and catch up.

Perhaps you could argue the QLD government hasn't done enough to enforce covidsafe practices in QLD - but its hard after 3 months no local transmission to get much buy in....
I'm not sure that I see what effect a 3 day lockdown has.

It's simply a circuit breaker to let QLD Health catch up because of the above.

Ah yes everyone queued up in supermarkets emptying the shelves

Stop the contagious variant! Rush to your local woolies and beat the mutant to the half price specials, and bog roll!

Read elsewhere that they've identified over 70 contacts based on the woman's movements over the 2nd-5th so I suspect this has something to do with it. Plus being the UK strain (though reportedly only 50-70% more transmissive, not a multiple).

And consistent with Queensland's harder response than other states generally.

Plus the fact that covidsafe practices in QLD have been very very loose and QLD Health know it. I wouldn't be surprised if the places these contacts and patient zero have been have minimal tracing procedures in place...

And here we go on borders again.

Tasmania is the first to lock Brisbanites out.... How long before WA wakes up?

Tasmania declares Greater Brisbane a high risk area, closes border and imposes restrictions

Tasmania has declared Greater Brisbane a high risk area following the Queensland Government's announcement of a three-day lockdown.

Any traveller arriving in Tasmania from today who has been in the Greater Brisbane area since 2 January will need to immediately quarantine for up to 14 days.

If they do not have a suitable premises they will be placed into a Government quarantine hotel.

More to come...

How does someone who works as a cleaner have 70 contacts. I work with 6 others and have probably only seen 2 other people this week.

I'm amazed, although I think wearing masks indoors for everyone who are seeing a lot of people is a good idea.

I am sure Donald Duck is getting a lot of phone calls at the moment.

You would be amazed how many times 'Jeanette Young' and 'Donald Trump' frequent my local cafe in Brisbane! Apparently 'Jesus' has made a few appearances too, the coffee is that good.

They have pen and paper tracing so you can see how often they visit... they have great phone numbers too, wish I could get 0412 345 678......

NSW has recorded 11 new COVID-19 cases

4 were locally acquired.

7 of those cases were acquired overseas.

Two are linked to the Berala cluster, one is linked to the Croydon cluster and the other infection is linked to the Avalon cluster.

A total of 26,112 tests were completed in the reporting period.

Border update for Brisbanites:

TAS: CLOSED (hotel quarantine if you try to visit from Brisbane and retrospective to Jan 2)
NSW: Will remain open for now
VIC: Update in next few hours
ACT: Likely to copy NSW
SA: TBA
NT: TBA
WA: Still asleep, dreaming of March

-----

NSW will not be closing its border with Queensland yet

"We will not be locking down the border but we will be applying the same level of restrictions to those who are coming or those who are in New South Wales have come from those areas," said NSW Acting Premier John Barilaro.

Victoria will issue advice on Queensland borders shortly

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has resisted laying down immediate advice for Victorians affected by the lockdown until he's gotten more guidance from the Queensland Government.

"We'll work through this in a methodical way, and hopefully in the next few hours we'll have ... definitive and clear advice," he said.

He said they would be as clear as they possibly could be for either Victorians in Brisbane right now, or those who had been in Brisbane since January 2.

I use an old iphone 4 so very few QR codes work and definitely not the NSW Government one so I have been signing in with a pen. Problem is my writing is terrible and sometimes I struggle to know what I wrote.

So is Dan going to recommend that Victorians in the affected area flee to NSW making them NSW problem? After all Victoria is not letting anyone in from NSW. This could get really surreal.

NSW being professional as always.

The service nsw qr codes dont seem to be as easily read by the default QR reader embedded in the camerasof most smart phones. If you launch theservice nsw app and scan directly from the app it always works first time. Under the regulations you are not supposed to sign in using pen and paper at hospitality venues, if you dont have a phone or cant get it to work the venue is supposed to use one of their devices (computer, tablet or phone) tosign you in electronically.

If he wouldn't let the ones currently in NSW home what will happen to those stuck in Brisbane. I would imagine airfares will skyrocket today.

3 out of 4 of todays local cases in NSW were already in isolation as were close household contacts of known cases. So only 1 cases movements to worry about, and as they were in NNB which is still in lockdown so minimal sites.

WRT to Brisbane, NSW arent closing border BUT do require anyone who has come to NSW from greater Brisbane from 2nd Jan (orison yheirway) toselfisolate for 3days as if they were home in Brisbane. Passengers on flights coming in from Qld will be screened at arrival, and Queenslanders haveb33n asked to bring proof that there have no been in greater Brisbane.

Surely if you have flown in from Brisbane then you have been in Greater Brisbane?
