Surely if you have flown in from Brisbane then you have been in Greater Brisbane?

I believe those connecting via BNE without leaving the airport arent deemed to have been in Greater Brisbane. But they are screening all Qld flight arrivals, so gold coast, sunshine coast and cairnes in case people were in BNE before going there.

How does someone who works as a cleaner have 70 contacts. I work with 6 others and have probably only seen 2 other people this week.

I'm amazed, although I think wearing masks indoors for everyone who are seeing a lot of people is a good idea.
large family maybe?

Due the Qld Case and announced restrictions, I spent the morning in discussion with a number of my Qld suppliers and business contacts due to a major planned project of mine in Qld in mid-Feb, though one of my Qld Suppliers must not have been following the news as their email to me this morning started with:

Hope you have had a great week and looking forward to a relaxing weekend!

Personally I am hoping like hell that only one or two new cases will be generated in Qld over the weekend. My weekend will be anything but relaxing now. Naturally I also wish minimal cases for the sake of all Australians.

70 contacts would not be hard and especially in Qld where life has been pretty normal for most.

Go to a few restaurants or cafes, see family or friends, attend a club meeting, fitness class etc etc

One of my Qld business contacts I spoke with this morning was in Melbourne for Xmas (pre cases being announced) and she remarked that behaviours were noticeably different in each state, including aspects like just catching an Uber being different..

Didn’t she catch several forms of PT, perhaps some of those have come forward?
Large family, shopping etc all could contribute

Our friends in the Tasmanian tourism business are in despair as Queensland cancellations have already start rolling in (remember NSW has been locked out for weeks now as well).

VIC is by far their largest market and they are now terrified somehow the QLD outbreak will spread to VIC and then Tas will lock VIC out....

Crazy crazy times.... :(

National Cabinet: All states and territories will test hotel quarantine staff daily

All states and territories will be testing hotel quarantine staff daily.

National cabinet has endorsed the Andrews government's push for the rest of the country to adopt Victoria's hotel quarantine screening process, including testing air crew on arrival.

Other premiers and first ministers pushed for weekly testing of hotel quarantine workers but were overridden, the Victorian government confirmed to The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald.

Yes I can emphasise for when like me your business is heavily dependant on free movement between states (well for me international travel in normal years also allows about 10-15% of income to occur) it has been anything but a Happy New Year so far.

Border update for Brisbanites:

TAS: CLOSED (hotel quarantine if you try to visit from Brisbane and retrospective to Jan 2)

Sigh. There goes the visit by my niece and namesake grand-nephew, already deferred twice.

... or have the nous to get a stock of 'essentials' and have it on hand all the time . I wonder if chemists are also affected? @drron or @Princess Fiona - do you know if the pharmaceutical buying limits imposed earlier this year on some items are still in place?

Chief Minister Michael Gunner said this includes the council areas of Brisbane, Logan, Ipswich, Moreton and Redlands.

He said this "means anyone arriving in the Territory today from these regions will have to enter mandatory two week quarantine".

The thing is that people don’t trust that 3 days won’t turn into 30 and so on.

AP asked the states to declare BNE a hotspot and close it to travel.

3 cases in SA today positive all from overseas but two more of the UK strain.

While true on the 30 days, the supermarkets will remain open regardless.

It is fear over logic.
Sure. But that’s the thing. Mental health is suffering immensely. I heard on the radio today from the UK that the chorus of people clapping the health workers at 6?pm has virtually stopped because they have just had enough.

4 cases of the UK variant here but two have recovered. All in med hotels.

Daily saliva tests of those workers plus weekly throat swabs.

South Australia has reported three new cases, all of people in hotel quarantine.
The SA chief health officer, Prof Nicola Spurrier, said there are two people in hotel quarantine in Adelaide who have tested positive to the UK variant of the virus.

One of those might prove to be an old case and we are doing some further testing. ButI want South Australia to understand that while there is that issue that is very concerning because, of course, we’ve got somebody who has been out in the Queensland community with that particular variance, we do actually have that variant here in our own state and we have to be very mindful of that and we have do not have complacency. With got to still be doing hygiene, the physical distancing, the QR scans, and all of those sorts of things and getting tested today that you get any symptoms. So we still have to be very aware here in South Australia.

Reduced overseas arrivals by 50% in NSW, Qld and WA until 15th Feb, no reductions in Vic cause they already taking less than 50% of what they were pre July. When reductions lift in Feb, hopefully other states including Vic will step up.
