Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

It is not a closed system. A nebulizer can generate a higher volume of respiratory aerosols and propel them over a longer distance including through the air con.

I'll have to go off and learn some more how a nebuliser works :) . I still can't visualise how the nebuliser discharge gets contaminated. Maybe it takes exhaled air in and recirculates it back to the user.

Put it this way - In my families clinic, it was the first service that they stopped offering as soon as the pandemic hit. You don't want them puffing out microscopic aerosols into the air.

It appears that the poor person (now in hospital) did not realise it was a 'medical device', so didn't declare it and didn't realise what they were doing.....

So next step - HQ people have their baggage searched?..... its getting pretty draconian.....

Maybe only in Victoria.

Earlier in the day SA said they were going to wait for more information from ViC tonight before deciding to shut the border and they’ve just made the announcement they’re doing it.

So they either know something or are in panic mode, I’m going with option B

Agree Its pretty clear SA don’t know much (per usual... pizzagate anyone?) and have panicked

Only took 28 venue locations and 3 outbreaks (Holiday Inn Melbourne Airport, Park Royal Tullamarine, Grand Hyatt Melbourne)

When you say panic mode, you mean muppet mode right?!

Didn't DA claim the other day that Victoria had the best HQ system in Australia...much better than NSW!! Time to eat humble pie?!
It’s always interesting old articles 14/12/20

I was reading the FAQs for Howard Springs quarantine facility the other day. It was already mentioned that baggage searches may take place...I think that was mostly concerned with people bringing alcohol which is entirely banned in there.

I think it was the last two that tipped them. As far as I can tell Vic seems to be on top of it as none have leaked into the widespread community. Hopefully in a week we can still say the same.

Was under 12 hrs from that comment, and a snipe at NSW's latest case.
Dan looked very sheepish when asked about that by a reporter today.

I'm still surprised that a nebuliser could create more particles than say a sneeze. CPAP maybe different due to the time it's used, but then it should be a fairly sealed system

Thanks for the clarification. So it appears to be sloppy reporting as I read it in the paper.
No that’s incorrect. The 14 days is from the exposure to the person with COVID-19.
NSW Health Close Contact
So this one came from DHHS Vic. When does the 14 day start? So confusing.
Our public health response to this outbreak continues. If you have symptoms, get tested. If you have been to any current exposure sites in Victoria, get tested and stay isolated for 14 days.

I don’t know if Vic have super-cautious special rules or not.

But from the Vic DHHS contact tracing page

  • Locations stay on the list for 14 days after the last time someone with coronavirus (COVID-19) visited during the period. 14 days is the longest period of time (incubation period) that someone who visited a location and came in to contact with someone who has coronavirus (COVID-19) could have the virus before they show symptoms.
The locations listed are where there is a higher risk you may have been exposed to coronavirus (COVID-19). It is not a complete list. The information is based on advice provided to the department by people who are confirmed cases.

Risk locations will remain on the list for 14 days from the most recent exposure.

PS Vic Health are now just Vic DH since 1 Feb. Twitter has been changed, I wonder when/if websites will be changed as well
