Yes it was an interesting interview Lynda2475.Though I remember when he was simiarly aggressively questioned by women they were heartily criticised.

Ibis Styles, puh-lease! :) Fined $774.

I wasn't aware we had anyone on hotel quarantine

Mind boggling she could just walk out. With a kid. And get in a taxi from the hotel....

At least in all the WA breaches the people climbed out windows / fire escape stairs, put some real effort in.

I’m sure there will be an inquiry 😂

Speaking to someone this morning, he told me that the false negative case is a colleague who works for a major contactor as a manager and that he visited a construction site last week. That may partly explain why a majority of construction was shut down this time.

VIC Circuit breaker rumours from radio

- Lockdown to end
- Increased restrictions around private gatherings and masks everywhere indoors
- Announcement expected before midday

...

Fantastic result for VIC and hopefully an end to the circuit breaker lockdown.

And look at the testing numbers, incredible.

Hopefully all of the close contacts are almost all tested again now. I think there will continue to be cases with people in isolation but hopefully not too many.
39k tests massive.

Apparently still thousands of results still coming in, on top of the 40K already processed, I wonder if they are waiting for some more to make the final decision......

Selfishly hoping I can get back to the tennis ASAP ;)

No reason why not.

As I have posted here for a while if second ring measures are deployed and there are no unknown transmission chains then both lockdown measures and interstate interstate border travel restriction measures (apart from anyone within the second ring, or who visited an exposure site) should not be deployed. Some measures such as mask wearing yes.

In my view all the recent lockdowns in Vic, Qld, WA and SA were not required and I said so at they time. Only with NSW with the unkown transmission chains was some level of travel restriction waranted.

As I understand things despite the "roasting" of many things Vic so far in this outbreak, since Oct all outbreaks have been ceased in 7 to 14 days. This one looks to be on track to achieve that as well despite it being the more transmissible strain.

In addition, and I have been flat chat workwise (a welcome change) for the last fortnight and so I may have missed a report or two, but has not every new positive been one of the initial workers or within their first ring? Most if not all of these latter cases have tested positive while in quarantine and no one has been out positive in the community for long lengths of time. There have been no mystery cases so far. No unknown transmission chains. Then the second ring beyond that. While some have been critical about lag of some contact tracing, the numbers to be traced are vast due to the second ring used in Vic which not all states have done of late (ie they will contact less). If so that means that the containment and control system is working and working well.

Quarantine breaches of various kinds occur, just as they have down in every jurisdiction in Australia and NZ. Obviously that remains an are of continue improvement, and was why I flagged Avalon as a good site after ready of the Wellcamp proposal. Having worked in infrastructure for 4 decades this is readily achievable, and more so as the normal planning and building requirements can be fastracked and/or suspended. I cannot see ScoMo lifting the international arrival requirements anytime soon. This really is a Federal responsibility and ScoMo and team should have long pushed through such facilities when it was obvious that the pandemic would linger. The states must now do so, and many airports actually have space where some capacity can be implemented. There are also some brownfield sites near some of our airports that can be used.

Yes, it seems to be a bit of a flaw in the system. 🤣 I suspect that the private security guards weren't empowered to do anything when she appeared out of her room and simply took a lift or walked down the stairs and out to the taxi stand. Never a cop around when you need one :(

Yup every single case so far has been caught within the rings, all traced and linked, no mystery cases so it just appears they panicked because of the nebuliser, the amount of cases it seeded straight off the bat and the whole unknown around the 'more transmissible' strain.... The contact tracing has worked as expected with the ring containment model and they probably could have left it at that without a lockdown - but equally I don't think Victorians would tolerate a week after week drip feed of cases either that comes with a NSW type response..... so rock and a hard place?

I'd expect all states (except of course poor old WA) to open back up borders very quickly as well as a result, just leaving the exposure locations as their defacto hot spots. Fingers crossed.

I've spoken to a few people I know in the industry and it appears the number of hotels willing to participate in the various hotel quarantine programs is... shrinking.

Those that are moving on are saying that the cost to brand is unpalatable and the financials are not stacking up as revised H&S protocols add additional layers of complexity and cost. From what I understand, there's a number of existing contracts that are unlikely to be renewed.

Edit: Grammar

Tasmania Police said the woman had travelled to Hobart with her young child yesterday before leaving the Ibis Hotel at 6:20pm in a taxi.

Contact tracers from Tasmania's Public Health Service are now working to identify any other movements or contacts during the time they were out of quarantine.

Mind boggling she could just walk out. With a kid. And get in a taxi from the hotel....
Well it sounds like they are learning. Woman in Launceston hotel quarantine climbed out a hotel window to escape. Maybe she’s on AFF😉😂.

Caught, charged and returned to Victoria.

Not probably but definitely given no mystery cases or cases in people that werent already identified as close contacts. The statewide lockdown has done nothing to limit spread, its only served to damage economy and mental health. It was unecessary over reach and knee jerk reaction.

There should be an unlinked mystery case before even considering wider community/region/statewide lockdown.

There is no reason to believe the outcome would have been different if this leak happened in NSW, as NSW is just as capable (if not more so) at track n trace (has a larger contract tracing team and better record for timely contacts) and tests its HQ workers just as frequently. So would have put all close contacts into 14 days iso, and casusal contacts into iso until negative result received. Not imposing restrictions on the rest of the state wouldnt have mattered, as they were not present at any exposure event.

One assumes that something was going on that we as uninformed bystanders do not know, and probably will never know. They obviously didn't feel the need to lockdown after the Black Rock cluster (wasn't even talked about) which reached 18 cases within 3 days (3, 5 and 10 respectively) whilst this lockdown was instituted it had reached 11 cases (1, 1, 2 and 5 respectively). Why the different approach? The messaging is the UK strain, but I don't buy that.

Will be interesting the economic effects. Valentines Day gone, but whether other sort of spending is completely gone, or just deferred and there will be a spike over the next few days we'll see.

I think it was panic combined with the realisation that it would be impossible to explain away a second self-inflicted wave without having another state to point to (i.e. NSW) and blame.
