Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Fortunately it seems every state is starting Monday. Demographics will hopefully work out which state needs more doses for vulnerable (aged and in residential care)

Given Australia doesn't have the correct syringes for the multidose vials, 1 in 6 shots will be wasted until we do, that's a huge loss rate before other user error type wastage. Personally as there is no super urgency we should wait until we have the correct equipment to administer the shots.

We really should be wble to produce syringes here on shore and the govt should have planned better.

Post automatically merged:

so life goes on and no border implications

WA still requires Victorians to do 14 days ISO so definitely still some implications.

WWWhhhaaaaat !!!!! and deprive some Chinese billionaire of a few more billions.. .. shame…..

A non-case in Vic is a weak positive (my interpretation) with 2 negatives and undergoing a 4th test. Had a previous infection in August. To be reviewed by expert panel.

May be we are coming to shedding season.... 6 months later

Seems like the decision to lockdown in Victoria may have been the right one. Virus fragments detected in sewage across a wide range of suburbs not previously identified in relation to any known contacts :(

By that rationale half of Brisbane should immediately be locked down and also several regional QLD cities as well 😂

States should also start closing borders as well to positive sewage testing, for added safety.

That was yesterday (or Wednesdays?) news or is it another one?
They already put precautionary isolation / tracking efforts on that one regardless.

Not sure when it was first notified but it was mentioned again today. Yes they are in isolation already (I’m guessing since the first recent test) in case it becomes a positive after the expert panel review.

Though remember that a lot of people have been through HQ of late plus many of the AO group have also rented private properties etc.

Plus viral fragments can be discharge long after infection.

The magic of the circuit breaker lockdown is gone. We have now made the second ring.

Today’s three cases are from the same family, but only 2 were quarantining at the Holiday Inn Melbourne Airport. They were released from hotel on 7/2 and were on Day 11 of their second period of 14-day quarantine/isolation having tested negative multiple times previously. The third family member was undertaking their first period of isolation as a close/household contact of a close contact

Interesting article... but it doesn’t address the major issue of caps, or fairness within caps. For example, non-residents are free to come and go as they please. There are some who have used that exemption to make multiple trips in and out of Australia, although I'm not sure of the exact numbers.

And if it is a right to come home, why is not a right to leave?

The opinion piece was addressing citizens, given we have caps atm my personal opinion is that the very limited places in HQ and on flights should be given to citizens first, then if space allows PR.

Andrews was proposing implementing rules to limit which Aussies can come home, in effect creating citizen classes and that is not acceptable.

If it were up to me i would close the loopholes for allowing non citizen, non PR family members arriving and delaying return of Citizens.

I'd personally block foreign sports teams and celebrities coming in as not necessary at all. If there are to be exemptions hard benefit of job creation would have to be shown and failure to produce real benefit subject to multi million dollar fines if benefitnot delivered., Australian taxpayers should not fit any part of the bill for those non citizen arrivals.

The restrictions on leaving are to my understanding to assist in not adding to the returns waiting list. That said I don't think its very hard to leave, everyone I know who has has cause from compassionate reasons and even one friend who went to Greece for fertility treatment were all approved.

If states such as Victoria pulled their weight on arrivals there would be less of a backlog and therefore less of a need to limit departures.

Which is why two rings outside a new case is important. It gets in front of the transmission chain and so people turn infectious while they are already in quarantine, rather than being out and about. So the process is working.

This one being a little different as it comes via people who were in HQ and exposed to Nebuliser Man.

There's a difference between PR and non-resident. You can have an Aussie citizen who is non-resident, and allowed to come and go freely (subject of course to two week's quarantine on arrival into AU each time!)

I think you're right that celebrities and sportspeople should not be part of the overall caps on arrival... and I'm pretty sure that is the case. Their arrival and quarantine is at their own expense, not taxpayers.

Maybe the Vic premier badly worded their intentions? But limiting arrivals and departures to genuine compassionate grounds might be part of the solution? being stranded overseas would fit within that category.

But, bringing it back onto the topic of the virus spread... the above is mostly political. It would not be fair to penalise residents of aged care or other vulnerable communites by withholding the vaccine for something based in politics. There may also Constitutional issues around any such proposed discrimination.

The only flaw is if the second ring gets infected/positive on Day 16 or theoretically Day 32 (eg close contact was positive at Day 16 and second ring (household) at Day 32 - getting infected while in quarantine/isolation) - but that’s the risk of drawing a line somewhere v Perfection

True, what everyone should do is really a 7 ring process instead of 2-3, for added safety*
