Oh what a shock, everyone join the pile on

Our response to this virus is both wildly successful and wildly regretful

I am beginning to question the point of our federation

That seems to be as practical and useful as previous suggestions. :p

Better than wildly unsuccessful and wildly regretful.

We should be well past having to "lock down" 2 million (it's actually more if you include the locked down regional areas) due to one case of COVID-19 anywhere in this country. We have not been distracted by large outbreaks or other worldly happenings to prevent us from designing better responses.

Just mathematically, even if the household of 3 all have it

That is 0.00015%

I suspect that the concern derives from the fact that this bloke whizzed very widely across Perth in a short time, visiting a wide array of places that are frequented by large numbers of people and lived in close confines with three others.

I'm as p!ssed off as anybody - but damned if you do; damned if you don't.

Someone has to make a call and, whichever way it falls, we just have to suck it up.

Yep

He asked all premiers/chief/prime ministers to restrict travel in to WA from their jurisdictions

Seriously, this guy will free himself of responsibility at any turn.

It is no business of any other state who attempts to enter WA and from where. It's scary that governments think they can ask for that level of control.
My take is that there is no point going to WA as you would have to go into self isolation for 14 days. Don’t waste your time and money. That is good advice. Not “telling” other Premiers what to do.

I did my online Victorian Entry Permit which I was informed had to be shown on entry. Nup! No officials in sight. Collect baggage and leave the airport, do not collect $200.

However I did received a text message a little while ago advising me to have a COVID test within 72 hours of arrival and isolate until a negative result is received. No monitoring, so the honour system.

I looked up the linked website. Incredibly complex! No pop up testing sites anywhere near me and the full list is not in alphabetical order, and sometimes doesn’t even say where they are. One website address for Vermont I tried didn’t exist! I’ll try the telephone help line again tomorrow morning during business hours. If I can be tested tomorrow morning, I’ll be good to visit Mum in hospital the next afternoon. 🤞

About 4 weeks ago Norman Swan, re the last hotel community release said they would do root cause analysis on the egress. Clearly WA did not read it, in what I called talkfests. In bad taste I made a quip about the next escape and statewide lockdowns, error rates and risk plans. This should now be declared a wartime emergency, and tip-of-the-spear workers like that one given Pifzer, and or verifiable and tracable job exclusivity. Most people know Victorian style rent-a-goon with pretend training is OUT. That pizza guy case was screaming 'not again'. Like recent nookiegates, staff need vetting, especially with .uk and .sa on the prowl.

Germany, known for strictness has approved Oxford for under 65's. CSL probably has stock available. Australia loves red tape, but this is costing too much. Time to act.

So that's everyone but NSW... Place your bets now for what they'll do in the morning.

For everyone following along with this dog's breakfast at home:

QLD : 6pm today PER is a hotspot - $2800 hotel quarantine required - anyone previously in Perth "should" get tested and self isolate until Negative result received.
TAS : Those off today's Perth flights told to self-isolate and await further instructions - restrictions likely to be introduced tomorrow.
SA : No restrictions on entry but must self isolate at home/accommodation for 2 weeks and get tested days 1, 5 and 12.
NT : 7:30pm today PER is a hotspot - $2500 hotel quarantine required - anyone previously in Perth needs to get tested and self-isolate until negative.
ACT : People on today's flight from Perth told to self-isolate and await further instructions.
VIC : 9pm today PER is a red zone - no entry at all unless exempt (freight driver etc) - not even residents can return - anyone previously in Perth needs to get tested and self-isolate until negative.

Victoria is clearly the strictest... locking out even their own residents for the time being.

NSW is in ( Interstate hotspots)

Arriving into NSW

If you arrive in NSW from Western Australia by air on or after 10:12pm on 31 January 2021 you will be required to undergo COVID-19 screening on arrival which includes

  • temperature and symptom screening
  • completing a self-declaration form.

If you have been in a WA affected area

If you arrived or are arriving in NSW from a WA affected area on or after 25 January you should get tested and stay at your place of residence or in suitable accommodation unless you have a reasonable excuse to leave.

You must stay in your place of residence or in suitable accommodation

  • until 9pm, Friday 5 February – if you have a COVID-19 test between 31 January and 5 February, or
  • otherwise until 9pm, Sunday 14 February.

This is why I did not renew my 4WD car rego. Too risky to go anywhere. Save on insurance and rego, while state govt misses out on both fees, rego, GST and petrol excise, and no need to support the hospitality trade, nor risk airfare losses or getting stranded. In Taiwan all mobiles are geo traced, so the innocent are not punished by catchall decrees.

What good will the vaccine do

It's not a cure for over reacting politicians, since zero is the desire

Now that is surprising... NSW is stricter than every other state by making those who've previously arrived get a test and self isolate until the 5th. All other states are just saying get a test and once negative you're free to go about your normal activities.

How many Australians in ICU. How many Australian deaths in the last month?

Personally I'd be giving our vaccine stores to those booked on flights into Australia over the next few months.. they are clearly the greatest risk.

It would be difficult logistically to ensure only they received the 2-shot dose.

So has WA implemented 2-ring??? Is the answer the reason why every other State and Territory Government of Australia so nervous??? Or is it the UK variant driving this decision-making??? Or both???

I don’t believe CSL will start manufacturing until late March. Initial stocks of both Pfizer and Oxford will be moored.

We will be once the vaccine is issued pretty much across the nation. But this guy clearly went to a lot of places while infectious and maybe they don't feel they haven't reached all of it yet.

A question. He went to the GP. Why isn't the GP considered a close contact?
