Australian state border restrictions

Though there will always be people that don't follow the rules such as the recent example of the fellow who flew NTL-BNE taking advantage of the QLD Government allowing transits from a red zone to fly 6 hours later BNE-DRW and testing positive on arrival.
He was ordinarily resident in the NT I think so approved to travel on that basis

Interesting!!

Really?

Anything that comes out of that mouth these days is becoming increasingly unhinged….

I wonder if it’s because we are about to lose our CHO and we might actually get someone more qualified in the job who might challenge the ‘interesting’ rhetoric we keep seeing come out up here!

I saw part of the interview where the Queensland Premier scoffed at people wanting to travel overseas and her ridiculous example of travelling to India. I'm sure India isn't the first place on most people's list. What a silly women.

She lost me way back when she said Queensland hospitals were only for Queenslanders! And that poor Northern rivers pregnant mum had to travel all the way to sydney and subsequently lost one of her babies. My son and daughter-inlaw lost one of their twins around that time and it was devastating. And that is only one example of her cold and callous lack of compassion for people.

My condolences… last night husband and I discussing the social impacts of last 18 months.
Context - I am in Melb/good access to parks services etc /not finannually affected by Covid i.e. plenty for which to be grateful and have put complaints such as no holidays into ‘first world problem’ perspective.
I have family/friends all over the world as do people here. I would defend Australia to anyone.
This week was the first time I felt ‘ashamed’ (actually I can’t find the right word) about being Australian with the contra-social behaviour which starts at the very top fermenting ugly divisions I’ve not seen before. Were we always headed this way and the stress of the pandemic unleashed the beast or will the genie go back into the bottle?
the latter - I fear not but want to be wrong
Whilst the irrational ’protesters’ we witnessed this week may be a ‘minority‘ their impacts are anything but. (Spread of virus/waste of medical/police resources/holding back freedoms by not reaching vax targets).
So whilst I would never wish the current Vic lockdown on anyone - lack of basic civility from sneering politicians crowing how well they have done are toxic and unhelpful and (IMHO) reinforce much of the us and them.
This to me is another negative outcome of this viral spread.
Thanks for allowing me to explain.

Interesting!!
For someone who is expecting the whole world to beat a path to Brisbane in 2032 AP is being incredibly xenophobic. I presume she would be outraged if some Indian minister questioned why would anyone want to go to Queensland.

It wasn’t a silly, flippant comment. It was very carefully selected to reinforce xenophobia. It was disgusting behaviour. A lot of Australians have Indian heritage and it was deeply rude to categorise anyone wanting to return to see family members, perhaps even the GRAVES of lost family members as idiots. Honestly just appalled and so sad we are still living with this…

Agreed
As I said this kind of thinking reinforces prejudices and no longer represents what it did

…*no longer represents TheAustralia we once had

I tried my luck earlier this year. There were no reported covid cases in the WA community at all when I boarded the plane. The next day, Perth went into lockdown.

I won't bother giving it another go anytime soon. WA can keep its "paradise" for themselves.
I was caught up in that as well. I was worried I wouldn't be able to get back East!

Especially the unbelievably racist undercurrent about India.

The opinion of some in the US about those "South of the border" would be a good starting place

Yup and as this is starting to get off topic (although it’s directly linked to why QLD borders will be shut for so long) I will simply say I agree and I’m not sure I can continue living here for much longer with this 1960’s time warp on diversity and cultural inclusion being weaponised for personal gain - and worse, a lot of people here seem to agree with it 😔

It is doubly strange because the hospital system for Queenslanders would collapse if their were no Indians employed by it.
Yeah - exactly - once the Delta strain hits QLD they will be frantically flying in medical staff from interstate and overseas into QLD to cope.
