Australian state border restrictions

The parochialism certainly increases with the progress north..but there is no venom.. we are all Qlndrs…
There is a difference between dry bush humour and spite
The kind of divisive commentary that has been bubbling along here reinforces the need for a wall…. hello 'stacia.. new project...
We Qlndrs can then happily live with our offensively poisonous persona's and the pure and perfect southern humans remain protected.. win win

Ah, FNQ. Bumbling around there in the early 1980s, a lady in Chillagoe, 200k west of Cairns, recognised me as an outsider. ‘Where you from?’ she asked. ‘Sydney’. She thought for a bit about this information, then asked ‘Sydney - is that in Cairns or ‘Reba’?‘ She also volunteered that she had no time for people from Cairns, and was happy that Sydney was a different place to Cairns.

Can those piling on Qld please start another thread? I suggest calling it "Triggered by AP" or "A GC waiter didn't acknowledge I am from a superior state". Can the other Mexicans please stop gazumping me on Noosa property? That'd be great.

I am surprised us Qlders are even allowed to be on AFF given how much many of our fellow AFFers seem to despise us.

Okay - I’m going to put it out there…
I am ready to be put in the stocks and have watermelons (or bananas) thrown at me …
I have loathed the actions/decisions of certain premiers/CHO’s et al - and had to cancel holidays to their states (numerous times) - and feel the seeds of divisive disunity between the colonies started with them.
However I feel if I - and I stress I - replicate this parochial pot shot behaviour I’m starting to argue against myself. Plus if I want unity maybe AFF is a good place to start.
OK - ready - aim - please don’t fire!
Tourism operators did not sign on for all these decisions by their rulers and can’t all have voted for them.

Fundamentally this is a frequent flyer forum and our primary hobby is interrupted. That’s going to cause some angst.
Except. The derision for SA started way before Covid.

Back on topic, as I mentioned upthread the tide is very quickly turning now up here on state border restrictions. People are really disappointed that out vaccine rollout has been so poor which has led to us being stuck in a situation now with people out of work and struggling business.

But as everyone heard, we’ve been given 5/6 weeks in QLD to rock up and get vaccinated by our Health Minister which is the strongest signal yet that QLD state border restrictions will be dropped, most certainly before Xmas.

Qld turns on Annastacia Palaszczuk over border rules

Tensions have reached boiling point in Queensland, with desperate business owners, suppliers, employees and unions turning on Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk over her border stance.

Ms Palaszczuk has refused repeated calls to release a roadmap to reopening with NSW and Victoria, leading commentators to suggest there is actually no plan in place to guide QLD out of the pandemic.

Owner of The Breakers holiday apartments at Broadbeach, Michael Stephens, accused the Premier of not caring about struggling businesses.

He told the publication that his occupancy rates have dropped from 85 per cent to five per cent and many of his Christmas bookings have been cancelled.

“She gets up every morning and is acting like this is a State of Origin game,” Mr Stephens said.

“We are not just Queenslanders, we are Australians.”

Interesting comment reflecting here that the Premier seems like she’s treating the borders like an origin Rugby game

As a Queensland born person with my entire family still there, it's not that AP is triggering me, it's that she won't let me go home.

If she could just open the border so I can spend Christmas with my family, that'd be great.

I certainly don’t despise QLD. It’s the policies of the QLD government on state borders that I take issue with.

Get some rational decisions made on QLD borders and confidence that trips will go ahead and people will book to go to QLD again. Unfortunately that doesn’t seem likely to happen anytime soon.

VA932 BNE-SYD this morning. The only VA flight today, with one QF and apparently none on JQ. Wondering if these flights are still Federally subsidised as minimal service obligations?

The support programs (DANS and RANS) currently run through to Dec 31, 2021, so yes there are still subsidies around.

Ditto for us in WA. I was just thinking yesterday about how obnoxious and disparaging some of the comments in this thread have been. We're not all living in Mark's cave and many of us want a different border policy.
