Australian state border restrictions

While true, the tanking of Perth's CBD has been long in the making. It was protected by unreasonable trading hour restrictions for decades, and significant investment from equity and super funds in to suburban shopping centres has really seen big changes in how Perth looks at the city. The pandemic has just added to the pre-existing woes.

It's probably one small reason why the support in the community for the government has been pretty unwavering

Not in the CBD it hasn’t. I’d suspect it’s the people digging stuff out of the ground that drove the economy.

The PCC trading numbers were abysmal, hotel occupancy horrific, restaurants and hospitality are down. It relied heavily on freedom of movement from other states and international too of course.

Really?! We had one person not in quarantine for eighteen hours on the 11th and 12th. They've found no community transmission and yet anyone from the entire southern portion of Tasmania cannot travel to Queensland. I appreciate "absence of evidence.." logic but if they thought there was a genuine risk, the ban should be backdated to the 12th, otherwise what's the point?
I can only view this as pointless political posturing.

Permit needed?

They've found no community transmission and yet anyone from the entire southern portion of Tasmania cannot travel to Queensland. I appreciate "absence of evidence.." logic but if they thought there was a genuine risk, the ban should be backdated to the 12th, otherwise what's the point?
I can only view this as pointless political posturing.

Please know, that our outgoing CHO who makes these ridiculous decisions has days left to live in the role. We only hope the replacement has more brain power!

Suspect VIC and NSW as the two highly vaccinated free states will be fully open to each other no issues or any restrictions in Dec (that would be my guess).

Right now though I’m unsure as have lost interest in state admin rubbish! Someone else will know

Meanwhile, I expect that WA will reclassify QLD as very low risk this week, if no further cases. From what I can see the latest exposure sites relate to BNE on the 8th and 9th, so getting close to two weeks.

I'm thinking the same for WA reclassifying Qld. But will it last! My family booking for Perth is Dec 11 AND we're all fully vaxxed but it's a case of being on tenterhooks until the actual day of flight. WA offers no reward to the vaccinated and trails behind most other States in getting the jab themselves. I believe it's time for someone in Federal government to stand up and go to bat for those vaccinated Aussies allowing them to travel freely within the Federation.

So the southern Tasmanian lockdown has been lifted at 6 pm tonight. Zero local cases and only the guy who brought himself in from New South Wales. I wonder how long Queensland will take to lift the ban on the state with zero local cases and zero local transmission?

It's not on topic, I know, but I was amazed by WA trading hours when I visited in 2019. Even more amazing was that both Esperance and Albany had been offered cruise ship stops, but only on the condition that the shops were open. Apparently they wanted the cruise ships, but were not prepared to make any changes for them. So, no cruise ships.

Queensland border details to be revealed

Queenslanders are on tenterhooks awaiting crucial details on when their borders will finally be reopened to the rest of the country.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk is expected to make the all-important announcement at her Monday press conference at 12.30pm local time, as Aussies eagerly await confirmation on Christmas plans.

QLD will be fully open for Christmas! (Estimate Dec 17)

Finally some hard talking from our Premier (must have been a good morning tea cake!) - get vaccinated or tough luck basically, so we just need all the regional bumpkins in QLD to hurry up and get jabbed.

At least our tourism industry will get some of their summer back!
