Australian state border restrictions

It means that I may be able to do my trip to LRE in December after all - but including visiting friends in CBR on the way back is moot.

Routing currently is PER-BNE-LRE-BNE-CBR-MEL-PER.

Thinking whether to re-jig it now or wait a couple of weeks. 🤔

Has anyone heard if WA will shut its border to QLD when the latter lets in VIC & NSW residents in Dec? We’re due to fly from WA to QLD for Xmas. Can’t see any mention of this issue in the recent press.

Its a tough one but given on Dec 17 (or earlier) someone could very easily go MEL/SYD -> BNE -> PER and enter with no quarantine versus having to do quarantine if they flew direct - then by the hermit kingdom's rules that would be a defcon 10 breach....

So technically they would have to shut the border to QLD as well (Again).

It is going to be very messy for WA and anyone trying to get there.

Now if SA and TAS jumps on board the new NSW/VIC/ACT/QLD 'Christmas alliance', WA will truly be cut off from everyone.

So WA consider ACT medium risk, even though their per capita case rate is higher than NSW which is extreme despite being well under 500 cases a day. It is a total joke!

But thats ok WA plenty of international destinations happy to welcome me and my $

Totally agree, do we know if queensland is going to accept the NSW health free tests or we have to pay for an expensive PCR test ?

No idea, but it is the latter for international travel, so wouldnt put it past AP to follow suit.

I think plenty will try this but those getting caught will get the demon treatment.

Under current settings, as you say, as soon as there's substantive spread in other 'christmas alliance' states (which there will be), restrictions will return.

Unless any opening plans are announced, looks like I won't be booking a January holiday to Qld :(

Please, do you have a PDF editor ? ;)
And this is why I expect testing on arrival won't disappear too quickly.

One can only hope that before long, it'll be test and isolate overnight, and you're set free when your negative result comes through.

You think they will put in rapid on arrival?

I think it will all be shoved in the too hard / unenforceable bucket pretty quickly and requirement will simply be double vaxxed (amongst the Christmas alliance states).

WA who honestly knows.

I am happy that WA is open to Qlders looking to get across as soon as i can, as the later its left the more chance of COVID creeping in.

Arriving Bne, ex Lst is a non event. Might be different during the day but I walked off the plane to a deserted airport. No paperwork check of any description.

Rapid on arrival is preferable to PCR and isolate until clear. I think it's likely there'll be a transitional arrangement of some sort, and fair point that it will probably not last long. But I do think Mark will be looking to 'monitor' the covid coming in, to some extent. And then isolate/HQ if you test positive

I see some appeal in on-arrival rapid testing as an alternative to slamming shut the QLD/SA/NT/TAS borders, when they reopen to NSW/VIC.

I suggest you cut CBR and MEL. If you are honest on your G2G application, you will be heading to home quarantine otherwise.

I’m pretty sure I will be cancelling the visit to MEL in January as neither my son (for work) or myself (another trip via CNS) have the tIme available to quarantine on return home.

(For information to others, the G2G application has to upload a driver’s licence or similar showing residential address, so you cannot use a friend’s address in a low risk states.)

That's what I meant by re-jig it. The 'or wait a couple of weeks' addendum was in relation to seeing whether WA may open to CBR.

MEL would definitely be out, but CBR may not be.

So, rather than make changes now, I'll hang tight for a while to see what happens with CBR.

The possibility may become PER-BNE-LRE-BNE-CBR-PER. Otherwise PER-BNE-LRE-BNE-PER.

Or cancel the whole thing.

Much of it is on Amex Ultimate flights from the last two years (one a rolled-over credit), then upgraded from whY once the QF Amadeus PNR was revealed ex the Amex Sabre PNR, so it's going to be a bit of a messy Amex/QF tangle to unravel.

Sorry but I think you are delusional if you think you are going to fly from Canberra to Perth and walk out a free person in WA come January.

i don’t think that. I was about to cancel but all I’m saying is that I’ll wait a little longer just to see what does play out.

I’m of two minds. I wouldn’t be surprised if WA was still so far behind with their vaccinations that they still were throwing people in hotel prison in Jan….

BUT after yesterday’s press conference and the growling everyone in WA got from Daddy (just like QLD started to a couple of weeks ago that has now resulted in a deadline or tough luck) I think the WA Gov are now starting to feel quite embarrassed about where they are at and could well surprise us all and announce something similar to be open for business…

I don’t know….

Remember covid is now circulating freely and unchecked in 3 states, soon to be 4 (probably 6 when SA and TAS join) with very high vaccination rates = undetected asymptomatic circulation increases as people won’t get tested. Plus it will be going through the kids too. Both groups may not even know they have it.

So honestly who is going to risk booking a holiday / work trip to WA, all double vaxxed and happy, then rapid test positive in the dungeons of Perth airport and be carted off to the Mercure hotel prison!… I don’t think so….

I think it would put a serious dent in people considering WA for anything apart from returning to family homes and potentially some desperate family reunification who had the time to suck it up…We wouldn’t be holding any events there until something more reasonable was in place.

The best (worst) option is test before departure I think to allow the borders to crack open at least before Christmas, then just move to double vaxxed quickly thereafter.
