Australian state border restrictions

Not true for pre-entry test for children:

Children aged under 12 years old will automatically be exempt (from vaccination), but they will need to have a negative COVID-19 test before arriving in Queensland and be travelling with a fully vaccinated adult.

That's why it is not worth the risk.
Well, that’s ridiculous and I understand you not wanting to go. It’s silly to lump all kids aged 0-12 in one group.

It all still becomes too hard.

Yes, that's why it is so frustrating. There would be thousands of parents who would love to take their kids to Gold Coast, Hamilton Is, Cairns etc etc etc, but they cannot do it as none of the children are vaccinated, and they all go to school mixing with other kids. So the chances of them catching COVID is high.

For couple without kids, they would probably prefer to go to Fiji anyway.

Finally, I don't know if QLD would ever reach 90% double dose, and even then, there was no clarification on their webpage whether children do not need to do pre-entry COVID test (as they are vaccinated). So this requirement could go on "forever" until children under 12 gets vaccinated.

Not sure about that, Fiji more popular with families with young kids because many resort packages include a nanny/babysitter. People without kids generally avoid anywhere family friendly.

The need to test is pretty much a turn off, worth it for international not so for Qld, will just cancel and spend those $ overseas later on. This will be 3rd time I've cancelled a Queensland trip and I wont be booking a 4th anytime soon, just too bloody hard. Better to go someone that will appreciate tourist $.

Completely understand, however international wont be any different really.

Singapore VTL for instance requires PCR testing for children above the age of 2. Australia required children above 5 years to have a test.

So basically wait until the year 2035 when QLD hits 90%

But what age “under 12”? I cannot see 1-5 year olds having PCR tests, much less babies.
1-5 year olds can definitely have PCRs, my kids here in london have them every couple of weeks as need them every time they have a sniffle and need to go to school. They get used to them super quickly.

Domestic testing is a really bizarre idea though given the lack of true border infrastructure. I can’t see it lasting without massive scale up of private testing capacity and some kind of linkage between the approved labs and some kind of record (elsewhere you have a passenger locator form you need to put your test booking into to link it to your passport )

13,000 people now on waiting list due to QLD border restrictions… oh dear…

‘Our mental health is really struggling’: Qld border pass waiting list balloons

The waiting list to enter Queensland has ballooned by 60 per cent within weeks as desperate families stranded interstate remain unable to cross the border, despite a home quarantine trial and a new reopening plan.

The Queensland government gave two hours’ notice on August 25 ahead of a pause on arrivals from NSW, Victoria and the ACT because hotel quarantine was “stretched”.

I’ve taken my grandson who has only just turned two for two PCR tests last year and I know his mum (GP) has taken him for a couple as well.

Doubt it eventuates.
No way are they having full time border checkpoints in place

McGowan denies WA is banning unvaccinated people from entering the state

There is confusion in Western Australia over whether the state plans on banning unvaccinated people entering the state.

In a list of frequently asked questions about new vaccine mandates uploaded to the WA Health Department's website yesterday it revealed its border vaccination rules would be extended to very low risk states by the middle of next month.

However, in an interview with ABC on Thursday morning WA Premier Mark McGowan said the document was not correct.

"That's not correct at this point in time, but that's the way all the states are moving. There's been some administrative mistakes there, but it's certainly the broad direction we're heading," he said.

That's not correct at this point in time.

Someone let the cat out of the bag. Probably reflects the advice he has asked the CHO to provide.

That might be one that has a reasonable chance of succeeding in the high court if there is no other avenue to entry once vaccination in WA is very high and COVID is circulating.

I am not against it. The disastrous hospital system there doesn't need a single person more to try and look after...
