Australian state border restrictions

And such modelling has not been remotely accurate in any Australian jurisdiction!

And given the number of lives it has destroyed, somebody needs to be held to account. They won’t though, as we just blindly follow “health advise”.

Amazing to read that the modeling in SA shows a total of 13 deaths. That’s not per day. That’s 13. Full stop. End of pandemic. Complete loss of perspective in this spoilt rich nation.

Turns out the answer is that WA residents might have the temerity to leave WA and go overseas via New South Wales and then demand to be let back in to Western Australia…

Needless to say the reaction from WA people that they are truly locked in now is starting to dawn.

asmania can't afford to lecture anyone as they need us back ASAP for the tourism industry,

Well, I'm not so sure about that. The state has done pretty well over the past year just managing on mostly internal travel (including some government voucher stuff). Can't go on for another year of course.

The fact that the Tas Govt's definition of 'open borders' after Dec 15 includes the unattractive proposition of making most travellers get a negative covid test 72 hrs before arrival, at least for the first month, I think shows that they aren't desperate or operating under an ASAP timeframe.

You would probably know more being from Tassie but we have currently just spent 16 days on the island and whilst the bigger towns and cities seem to be fine I did notice that there were a lot of hospitality venues in the smaller towns that had closed their doors since our previous visits and that the B&B’s were doing it fairly tough. Was a weird feeling though with what seemed like every second person on our travels visiting from SA 🤣

That's a pretty accurate assessment. The smaller businesses always do it tough. The bigger players really don't care. If they genuinely experience hardship, be sure there will be a compensation package.
I've been flitting back and forth from SA recently, utilising the new VA service. From my observations, the flights I have been on have had a substantial queue at the gate.

HBA or LST?
My understanding is the VA LST service is going really well and has had better patronage so far than HBA. We are flying back from HBA tomorrow but no VA tomorrow so on the QF flight unfortunately

Sorry, I didn't specify. I'm Launceston based (is there life in the south..?). Are Qantas offering a direct ADL flight ex HBA? Last year, HBA was my only gateway to SA but it was all the way with JSA. I'm P1 with Qantas but haven't flown with them for months, simply because the flights weren't there.

They are desperate, just not loud or organised enough at lobbying for the TAS government to care. Too many small operators. Tourism in Tas is down about 58% ($) according to a report in the Age a few weeks ago. Only QLD was worse.

The testing for a few weeks is purely politically driven by the Tassie government to keep the old welfare / retiree flock happy as they slowly open up. Look - at least they are opening up. Better than nothing, cough WA.

We flew ADL-LST on VA and it was superb and packed.
The new VA HBA-ADL service doesn’t operate Tuesday’s so we are on the daily QF on the E190. I think a couple of days per week they run a double daily on the E190. J price is criminal though even with the good discount we get but it’s our only real opt tomorrow

VA have too much aircraft in a 737 unfortunately. If only they had an aircraft that was you know, the size of an E190…

It’s not fair all people in WA are being punished for the tardy, vaccine hesitant and anti vaxxers though.
That’s happening in those states who never had a significant delta outbreak. The Govt in each state hammers the ‘keeping you safe (by locking others out) mantra. People buy it.

They buy it because unfortunately it continues to work. They have locked the doos so %#^*# tight. Problem of course is how do we extract ourselves from under the doona!

is there life in the south..?
It's life, Jim, but but not as we know it!

Cheers skip
