Australian state border restrictions

I just heard on the radio that our cricket captain has secured special approval from SA Health to escape Adelaide isolation and go home.

Really heartwarming that there’s still a 2 class system still operating, I did think we sent that out the door with the QLD CHO and her posse of footy players and their groupies, but seems SA really has worked hard to take her place….

Any idea when this perk will be rolled out to us QF FFs? I reckon it'll be Chairman's Club first before rolling out to us lowly Platinum Ones, Platinums and Golds! 😂

Every state has been guilty of it throughout the pandemic

I did mine on arrival today, no questions asked.
There is even "on arrival" option to select in there online booking form

Apparently all you have to do is be able to throw a ball at some pieces wood accurately to get this benefit, nothing else required so start practicing 🤪

South Australia really is lurching from logistical disaster to PR gaffe to just plain stupid decisions almost everyday now.

I agree it’s not ideal but it’s something that all states have done but sure you can pretend it’s a SA problem only

You're right but some states committed more unforced errors than others. In particular, I am reminded of the former CHO (now Governor) of Queensland who once famously stated that she'd rather see an 18 year old get COVID than the AstraZeneca jab. This despite the fact that the jab was already administered millions of times safely at that time. The hysteria from everyone over the jab was palpable. Even speaking with my parents my Dad thought I was nuts choosing AstraZeneca over Pfizer. As it turned out it was perfectly safe and as good (if not better) than Pfizer.

The other thing some Premiers have come around to is the idea that COVID won't be the sprint we all hoped for but likely a marathon. Imposing health orders when there's limited scientific basis to do so at best is a great way to get your runners to abandon the marathon in exhaustion a couple kilometres off the start.

True and SA has made some shocking blunders but sports people in Australia have been getting special privileges from every state throughout and a lot more special treatment than what most people are aware of. The fact that coughmins was even sent into isolation in the first place is a bigger issue for me

I think lots of positive interstaters were allowed to leave though as the active list kept declining and this was the reason given.

Have Dom and Dan formed some breakaway rogue National Cabinet?

It seems to be working better than the other one - quite an achievement when the leaders are from polar opposite sides of the political spectrum.

This is all an experiment and we'll know in a few months how well all of this turned out. Certainly the lockdowns served us well in 2020 allowing us to keep things open. But now that we've got new strains that are extremely difficult to contain but have vaccines that work really well, treatments and protection (e.g., N95 respirators) that didn't exist in 2020 the jury is still out on which approach is appropriate. What I do feel sorry for are the tour operators throughout Australia who would otherwise be relying on this travel season to pick up all the big travel and tourism bucks from those north of the equator wanting to escape the bitter cold of winter.

N95 respirators were around in 2020 and before
Theoretically, yes, but in practice no. I should know, I tried finding N95 (P2) respirators online and elsewhere in 2020 and they were either sold out or weren't from a reputable brand (has anyone heard of 3N?) Only recently could I get some quality 3M N95 masks shipped over.

Calm down no one is pretending it’s an exclusive SA problem only, but they sure are owning it at the moment 😂

I heard on the news TAS Health has slammed some close contacts in quarantine for 2 weeks because get this / their 2 month old counts as an unvaccinated traveller and despite testing negative and the parents being fully vaxxed they have to do 14 days quarantine…. Seriously?

Poor poor WA residents. It’s just heartbreaking, really not fair :( They are now completely locked out.

The WA Premier got slayed in the press conference, I know he has a speaking disability that causes him to stutter and lisp but when he is stressed it gets even worse and it was clear he is under tremendous pressure now. Hopefully something breaks so that WA residents can escape, but the vaccination rates there are still appallingly low… what a mess…
