Australian state border restrictions

If anyone is flying domestcally out of SYD today, you will probably want to get to the airport early today, been in the line for security for over an hour now, I think someone forgot to roster on additional security staff today and its a bit of a mess with only half the security lanes open.

WA changes to borders

Queensland is changing to Medium Risk
Tasmania is changing to Low Risk

Have to quarantine wherever you come from!
And soon enough he is like a hysterical Dictator in their last refuge underground bunker surrounded by enemy troops. No choice left but to make final goodbye....

We're due to fly from WA to QLD next week for Xmas. Very unclear if we can do so and still be permitted back on the 30th as "returning residents". McGowan says the exemption for returning residents is based on "compassionate grounds", which implies it's for people already in QLD. But nowhere in the WA border pass application does it ask you when you left WA. We wouldn't even bother except that heaps of family is reuniting in QLD from all over the country to also celebrate a 70th bday. So frustrated.

What's the go with QF connecting flights and border restrictions?

For example, would a flight to Canberra from Adelaide via Hobart involve Tasmanian border requirements (testing, isolating until test or whatever they are) as well as SA departure requirements and ACT entry requirements?

Or do the airport border patrols simply consider you in transit, like an international flight where you stay airside between connecting flights?

Not sure I'm understanding the current go with this. I'd love a few hours in Hobart en route to Canberra, but not sure if this sort of thing would work.

There is now a petition for a test site in Port Douglas if anyone else wants to sign:

Well that was a waste of time - how ridiculous! 😡

Wouldn't risk it. He has to keep WA safe. Just beacuse you are a WA resident does not mean anything these days. Worst case you have an extra 5 weeks holiday in QLD waiting until the 5th February. I would also not 100% bank on the borders opening on the 5th either, as 'risks could change' and anything can happen in a month or more.

It was very busy when I flew out thankfully Qantas were enforcing premium security which was only a 5 mins wait (up 100% from last time I was there and the place was a ghost town).

I almost welcome the crowds! It’s such a nice buzz again!

Well there is a syphilis outbreak racing through WA right now but I don’t see them screening for that or putting border restrictions in…. Yet 😂 ;)

Has been an epidemic among the remote WAs communities especially the Aboriginal communities for a while now. There have been outbreaks over the years. It is actually nothing new.

Syphillis testing can be done at point of care - fingerprick blood test.
Syphillis treatment involve not only treatment for the specific infection but interventions at the socioeconomic level. Not strange that covid treatment also involve also socioeconomic interventions.
See here

Can be easily treated using good old penicillin. Don't need high tech vaccines.
Imagine what coordinated government action can do
WA Covid response? - what about a concerted effort to deal with WA Syphillis?

Oh, Forget about long Covid. Try and deal with Long syphillis....

But Covid testing stations are only for Queenslanders so why would we open when the Mexicans arrive?

Wonder what the incidence rate of intestinal parasites are in the remote communities??
Which seems to be treated by that unmentionable substance.....
Rumors are it may not cure covid, but infection rates do seem lower where it is avaiable.

Oh, if I were permitted overseas wandering

Fred

But in a separate announcement, test results for recent overseas arrivals will not be available for at least 72 hours.

Actually the airport is one of the few places where you can get guaranteed results in under 90 mins ;)

You gotta feel sorry for the Prime Minister of Western Australia. It's really a case of damned if you do, damned if you don't. If he allows in asylum seekers for other states he'll be criticized for being soft on immigration and Perth will be called a sanctuary city. If he's tough on the border Ashes gets cancelled. 😂

I for one welcome a deserted Sydney airport (which was the case when I flew out 2 and 4 weeks ago). Waiting in security queues is a pet peeve of mine to the point where I carry a paper bag with me when I travel in case I hyperventilate. Also from a COVID safe standpoint it's always better to be in a deserted environment than one where you're shoulder to shoulder. That being said, I do wear a P2 respirator when I travel so hopefully that'll limit my exposure to Corona only to QF Club when I get on the beers 😂

I didn't know BNE has now been added as a destination to the Mexican hat dance.
