Australian state border restrictions

Haven't seen many posts about AFFers flying into Tassie despite the record number of flights since the borders opened, two of our team flew in from Melbourne, vaccination status and covid neg test were not requested to be sighted by bio sec Tas staff - they just had to scan their QR code 'permit'. Just an FYI.

So they aren't screening every flight - which isn't a surprise, as they communicated as much.

Just landed in SYD on Scoot from Amsterdam, Singapore.
Took me just 5 minutes to to get taxi to hotel.
All they did is gave everyone a paper with NSW requirement to self isolate for 3 days.
But what if I fly to BNE tomorrow? And have to stay 14 days at home any way?
Confused....🤪
I'm sorry to tell you this, but as you have left the airport you will either need to stay 14 days in NSW and cross the border as a domestic traveller or hotel quarantine in QLD.

Home quarantine is only for direct international arrivals into QLD or for those who have transited in another state and not left the airport

It has taken the announcement of a date for the border to open to cause a rush to immunise. That is good, of course, but I still don’t understand why someone would wait until now when they want to visit rellies in Melbourne in January or because a nephew has an autoimmune disease? Anyway, on track for 90%.

I actually think its more to do with the appraching workplace mandate deadline more than the border which isnt till Feb

Testing clinic at Adelaide airport opens at 8am. And they wonder why there are queues, angry people, and people lining up for hours at RAH, many of whom gave up and went to the cricket anyway. The thought process that people flying in don't usually have car access for drive through testing seems to be beyond their thought capacity. Maybe they thought they could just pop through in the taxi or uber, and pay them for the three to four hour wait for that. 37 today, people won't be queing anymore. Honestly SA Health are so obsessive in some areas, yet completely oblivious to the obvious (not having to wait in iso until the test result) I just can't understand it anymore.

I thought it's isolate until the test is taken and no need to isolate for the result?
In effect from 2:53 pm, 4 December 2021, all ACT, NSW and VIC arrivals are Level 3 / Moderate risk.

Moderate risk
  • Evidence of COVID community transmission
  • Population rate of full dose vaccination 80% or higher
  • Pre-arrival negative test result taken within 72 hours before arrival
  • Test upon arrival and quarantine until you undertake your test
  • Test on the 6th day after arrival
  • No entry to high risk settings for 7 days
  • Symptom checking for 14 days after arrival

SA Health are reporting that testing staff are simply not turning up to shifts because of the crowds and abuse they are copping they are desperately trying to fill shifts and even office chained public servants are being forced to go and assist with traffic management. Priceless. What a disaster! And they are the contractors!!

A friend who was booked to go Adelaide next week has cancelled as she’s been watching the news and said why would I want to ruin my holiday in queues of pissed off people… Has decided to stay in QLD….

So the conspiracy theorist in me tells me that's their objective. To deter people coming here. Otherwise it makes no sense.

I don't think it's really a conspiracy theory, seems to be exactly what the rules are intended to do.

With respect I honestly don’t think any of them are smart enough to come up with that idea. They are just still coming to terms with what living with covid is. The numbers are below the models so all the level 10 panic, breathless press conferences (still!) and locking up cricket captains is just hilarious…

There was a stuff up with the data SA Health were using aswell which possibly has made things worse. They had used data from ticket sales to cricket and with the reduced capacity about 90% of ticket sales came from SA addresses but they stupidly didn’t factor in that some interstate patrons got tickets through friends or were SA members coming home. They also ignored that air traffic has picked up and many more tourists and visitors arriving this week. Woefully undermanned at the airport stations and the RAH walk in whilst other stations have excess staff twiddling their thumbs. As I said yesterday the opening hours are poor too, should be open for first flight not 8am otherwise You have half a dozen or so flights already landed with passengers lining up and another influx between 8-9. Just poor all round but that’s SA Health for you

You have a choice of conspiracy, or stupidity. It’s much more likely to be the latter. But then, this is SA, so perhaps it’s both.
And I wouldn't mind either but on the other hand they are completely obsessed with slamming people who are mere contacts into med hotels for 2 weeks but miss the absolute and total no brainer safety risks that even blind Freddy can see.

Like forcing hundreds and hundreds of people into a queue in close proximity for hours …

Yes that's right. Which is why we are getting interstate travellers testing positive and being notified when they are already in the community. As per coughmins the other night. Makes no sense not to have people isolate until results given they are back within 12 hours here. And for SA Health to have a major testing hub at the airport that starts the moment planes land. There is so much room there to accomodate that.

Having said that, I can accommodate that however, they are extremely reactive once they perceive the damage is done by excessive use of med hotels in the most nonsensical situations.

Morning.

Does anyone have any experience of the turnaround time it takes for the approval of the SA Entry pass? Interstate Victorian arrival.

The website says approval will follow 'shortly' after the application. I've been waiting 12hrs now, yet my wife received hers almost instantly.

NT might have a similar issue soon (20/12 'opening' date)

They are allowing travellers into Uluru, but the nearest testing facility is in Alice Springs.

Hope someone fixes that by 20/12!

Can be about 12 hours. Try it again.
