Australian state border restrictions

The other inconsistency (everyone on a flight is sometimes a close contact) has claimed more victims.

All passengers on a Sydney to Launceston flight on Wednesday have been told to isolate and get a COVID test immediately.

VA1086 arrived in Tasmania on Wednesday morning, the day Tasmania's borders reopened.

Public health says passengers in all rows are considered close contacts, and will be required to quarantine for 14 days from the date of exposure.

It seems that Tassie is taking a leaf out of the Qld playbook for deeming whole flights close contacts, sigh.

I hope they do

Well that easing was based on high fully vaxed rate, if too much of the population has waning immunity they need to boost it up, hence definition change.

The 2 doses rollout for 12+ is basically done, anyone in that cohort has more than enough time to be double jabbed by now, and most 40+ are already at 5 or more months since jab 2, so roll-on with the boosters.

Introduction would be based on time since second dose, so if it was under 4 months they'd let you back in. If your already there get a booster before you leave, plenty of doses available - that is why NSW Health has been SMS spamming people.

None of us will know what is going to get discussed, lets just hope some common sense prevails and they dont make it harder to travel interstate and get back home again.

My hotel booking for next week, allows me to get a full credit if state entry rules change but only if I request it within 48 hours of the announcement, so I need Anna to make up her mind swiftly with whatever she announces.

I meant rollout of the booster.

I received my second jab quite late (September), and I fly to LAX 4 months to the day after this. I’ll be a week shy of 5 months when I return.

I imagine there are millions in queue ahead of me, you can’t even begin to talk about restrictions until you’ve caught up with those people. They won’t give me a booster at 3.5 months now and I’ll doubt they’ll bring in this new rule whilst many have already departed the country. It would have to be future dated - several months into the future.

If you think Dom is going to bring back vaccine restrictions and QR check in at all the places we literally just removed them from, we are watching two different premiers I think.

I hope they do

They have as good as killed the day 5 test dictated by their border restrictions - QLD health publicly admitted in the media they aren’t chasing up / recording or following up visitors tests. So why bother. It’s not linked to anything.

Leading story on ABC News - SAs testing system has quite literally collapsed because of their border testing requirements, people waiting for 8-9 hours over night even at some testing centres.

The grumpy old commissioner: ‘it was unforseeable’ …. cough really - who put the tests in the first place and who is counting planes and cars across the border it’s not rocket science mate.

SA have asked VIC for help and now have asked the Defence Force to come and help test. I hope Scomo tells them to go jump.

Perhaps if he has a cough he should go use the testing service.

Asking Vic for help isn't going to work, they have their own problems.

Once again, we need to stop testing people who are not sick. Perhaps if the swabs were anally administered then this would have already happened, as this is a right pain in the a**!

I dont think that at all, Dom was never a supporter of QR. People arent interesting in checking in anymore.

FYI - you can always get your booster for free whilst in the US, vaccine tourism is a thing.

I don’t believe that is the case just yet and not a view shared by all in the SA committee. They have been talking about the 4 months for boosters and the 3 jab policy for a couple of weeks now so I’d think they would strongly support any NSW and VIC proposal on that.
I really hope we show some common sense in regards to borders but I have no faith in them unfortunately.
I do recall the new Qld ChO discussing about moving away from case numbers and towards hospitalisations and the people in ICU as the 'trigger' for lockdowns.

As of the moment there are little to no one in ICU in Qld at this time, but they're preparing for it. It's a matter now whether Qld ICU gets overrun or not to 'set off the trigger'

@Lynda2475 Port Douglas has been extended until 24th. Who knows about further extensions 🤷🏻‍♀️ Take a hat and a bottle of water!

Thanks but I dont fly til 28th, need my test on 1st Jan - if its still a thing then. If they extend again, Id expect many hung over people on new years day will make for a shorter queue.

Agree - these state border testing requirements are quite possibly the most criminal and blatant waste of money we have seen in a very long time. We are and our kids will all be paying for this, it is outrageous.

It should be one of the top topics at Nat Cab tomorrow.

There was a story in SA where someone who was SYMPTOMATIC waited 4 hours for a test, behind thousands of healthy travellers, went home then tested positive a day or so later. Oh dear….

Yep, considering it, but I had really bad effects from my second jab and don’t really want to get that on holiday. I am booked in to NSW at 5 months to the day, a week after I get back. Unsure if they’ll let me that close to international travel, but I guess we’ll see. I’m going back to the vaccine hub at Belmont.

Meanwhile I actually did get my 5 day test yesterday and still no result this morning. I got mine next day in Newcastle despite the local outbreak, so interesting Queensland can’t cope with 15,000 tests a day.

Wow the news is going off, looks like testing sites everywhere becoming overrun because of the state border restrictions and a really awful side effect is that hospitality and small retail is dead, having their worst lead up to Christmas ever because people are out getting tested. Wow what an utter mess. Thanks state governments, again.

And I'm guessing you aren't in a regional area?

This is becoming a full blown national crisis for all concerned (excluding WA).

Harvey Norman - maybe 30 people inside a super store right now and car park deserted.

That doesnt appear to be the case in Sydney. I was at pub last night for Trivia and the bistro was full of Christmas parties. Shops have been pretty busy, its been so hot those with out air con at home head to westfields to cool off.
