Australian state border restrictions

Rumours are in the media that WA is working on a 'new plan'.... I wonder what that will be.,,,,?

EDIT: WA press conference 'We are not going to be able to get this outbreak under control'.

So this is a good first step towards open borders!

I reckon there's a fair chance restrictions may suddenly ease when McGowan is due to fly back to WA.

I'm not sure the new date will be directly linked to that, but I expect that there will be an element of gaming with the new date

Yes, as I said, the messaging is changing.....

Only one option now... a 7:30pm press conference to announce major changes. That's how they do it in WA right?

To be honest they would probably want a GOOD announcement to be ready for prime time all states. They just did that border announcement so late to try and bury it.

Had WA opened pre xmas like all the other states and territories, they would also be trending down on omicron cases now.

Delaying opening means that their peak load will be during the busier school and work period, so have a bigger impact on economy than if had occurred in summer holidays where fewer people working and studying.

Lots of chuckles here in the east that their hard border failed to keep omicron out anyway.

Head of AMA, take this information with your own measure of credibility, said that by delaying the reopening of borders until May meant he would be exposing the vulnerable at a time when their immunity was lower again, (too long since being boosted) and when Winter seasonal issues would start to kick in. Think it's the first time I've agreed with him 😂

If you are talking about the head of the WA branch of the Doctors' Union he was squealing earlier that the Feb 5 opening should be delayed.

As soon as Marko did just that, he started squealing that it needs to be open before winter.

All he seems to be able to do is whinge, no matter what. PITA.

The ABC gives him airtime.

He's take this as positive, keep borders closed and open when the sun comes out, open borders for school holidays December 2022!

Oh?

What happened when NSW said that?

Hmm...reality bites.

I'm sure the people of NSW in particular are taking well deserved delight in what is unfolding now, but regardless the reality is that WA are now really really stuck when it comes to their state border restrictions.

They have officially given up at 25ish cases a day, I don't think because that's not impossible to trace, trace and control at that level with the right levers (it is) but because the hard cold reality has now hit them - that even if they do pull out the stops and 'crush and kill' it will literally be days before the next outbreak, and the next and the next and the next....

It will keep streaming through the border because they can't keep essential workers out, HQ is not bullet proof etc etc. A new outbreak could literally be seeding right now and probably is, it is so prevalent everywhere else.

Sometimes it needs to hit people in the face physically before they understand it and I feel that from the comments and tune changing and other moves like back flipping on RATS, the WA government has made in the last 48 hours this has clearly happened.

Now when will they open? Their Premier needs to save face, so it won't be Feb 5. But I suspect it will be soon.

I've never had absolutely no idea about something in my life...... Couldn't even stab in the dark, won't find the knife... Probably stab myself.

Re; WA opening that is
