Avianca LifeMiles – Bookings and Discussion

DONE! It took a few phone calls, dropouts, people who don't speak English, the usual LM cough etc, before I found an agent who could reissue the tickets.

Phew - I can't believe that if I hadn't seen that random post above, we wouldn't have been able to board our flight.

I'm so done with LM. These flights are the last of my LM, and I'll never use the program again.
This is crazy, such a hassle. Yeah I'll be done with LM after I burn these 160k too.

I’m searching for Business awards Australia to EU and vv on LM for July/August. To my surprise, I can actually see several dates with 1x and 2x Business award space on Thai with FRA and OSL. But while piecing together the outbound and return flights, I’ve quickly realised that these are very likely phantom awards.

United, Air Canadia and Singapore do not have any of the same partner award space showing. I know that some airlines pay more for awards hence differing availability between FFPs etc, but this Avianca LM - the same mob that get Jack cough from any other airline. Theoretically, if they’re phantom awards it should fall over upon ticketing request and I’ve answered my own question pretty quickly. But knowing how terrible the LM award ticketing engine is, I don’t want the hassle of an incorrectly issued ticket and having to chase up my CC provider and Lifemiles for days on end.

Anyone have any recent experience with ticketing Thai partner awards on LM?

I would not transfer miles to LM to buy this. Or top up with cash. Just in case they are phantom.

But if you have the miles, no harm in trying.

LM doesn’t usually have ticketing problems. If it generates a ticket, you’re good to go.

We had no hassles with a booking in Nov. Used miles for J in Aug 24 for SYD-BKK and BKK-DEL on TG. Touch wood all good so far

Trying to eliminate some of my my last 50K Lifemiles & I can see Business awards in February SIN-KUL. I can see the same flights on each Velocity, SQ, UA and Lifemiles.

But when I go to confirm the booking I get an error page:
We're sorry! we could not process your request, try again. If the problem persists contact our Call Center (option 3) or send us an email to [email protected]

E2.1...
Would this likely just be Lifemiles website being cantankerous and is it worth emailing them? Or simply SQ being blocked ...

In this case, if you can see it on line you can call and ask the agent to book.

Lucky and LM are offering a 10% miles rebate if you register and purchase through the OMAAT link. I’m keen to run down my LM balance so maybe register and just purchase 1K miles for the 10% rebate. And although the rebate doesn’t run down mm miles per se, it’s still worthwhile for a decent sized points redemption.

There are some key terms and conditions to adhere to that don’t seem too onerous.

Well… is it? The rebate is only 7 days later or something… so you have to (a) buy more miles, (b) still spend a full priced award (c) end up with 8-16k ‘orphaned’ miles left :(

I wanna get rid of my LM, not end up with more! lol

Yes. Stop pickin fights so close to Xmas, Meltraveller! 😀

Just buy the very minimum 1K miles at full price which works out to maybe $50 AUD? And then, depending on redemption value, you’re looking at 10-20K miles rebate 1 week after travel. Those rebated miles are worth $250-500 depending on how you value them. It ain’t running down miles, but many will still be keen to avail 175% + 10% rebate.

I have only ~3k LifeMiles left, and am holding a booking HND-SYD in NH J which exhausted most of my remaining balance and which I hope will be my last dealing with them. However that flight is more than a year after my last transaction, so I may end up buying 1k points in the current sale to ensure my points are still active in the event I need to cancel late.
