re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

I am currently looking at a long haul flight in 6 months time, and have a couple of options. SQ J or TG F (with a 20k LM premium). Having never flown either, is TG F worth the extra?

If its TG380 i would say so

Hmm, more decision time! Now US is with OW (and flights a little harder to come by) may need a few more points in LifeMiles as a backup option.

I have done both & I would say yes. To me the small numbers in the cabin is a big advantage & I have had no hassles with the seats I have experienced on TG. I also thought the TG F&B were fine

I would say TG F A380 or 747 refurb would beat SQ J.

Or, if your itinerary allows you to enjoy the ground services at BKK - that is also a plus.

The only time I might possibly think SQ J over TG F would be if we were talking night flights with limited opportunity to enjoy service onboard and the SQ flight is operated by an aircraft with full flat beds - these beds probably beat those on a TG A346 in F for comfort. In that case I'd likely save the miles.

Any one know what happens if we were to miss a J redemption flight on say SQ or TG!? Would they rebook us into the next available or would it be forfeited?

If you miss a flight for your own reason (i.e. not a result of airline delay, weather, mechanical etc) then the rest of your itinerary is cancelled and you forfeit all remaining flights.

Thanks for all the replies.

TG F is either A346 midday or B744 midnight departure
SQ J is A388 only, either mid-morning or midnight departure

I am tending towards the TG 744 as it is ex BKK and so allows plenty of lounge time after a leisurely late hotel checkout. It also gets me closer to where I want to end up.

If it's their fault e.g. missed connection they'll look after you...otherwise you have to assume forfeit...you couldn't reliably expect anything else.

Not new. LifeMiles has always enjoyed special access to J on the SQ 388 and 77W.

TG F beats SQ J anytime of the week.

Personally I like the midday departure ex-BKK purely because you enjoy lunch onboard at a reasonable time, rather than being served dinner around 2am for the midnight departure. In addition if you have just left the east coast of Australia, having dinner on the midnight departure is like 4 or 5am east coast time and that is really going to mess up with your body clock.
