Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Is this why I can't get any availability when I try searching flights AUS to wherever?
How do you cover the leg out/into AUS?

SQ has removed all availability for *A J awards between Aus/NZ and SIN...except within 14 days of departure. Not sure why, but it happened 6 months ago.

Of course it affects all partner programs, not just LifeMiles.

You can book e.g. Thai or Air China from Aus - transit city - EU, so long as the connection time is less than about 8 hours...otherwise it's not bookable. Unfortunately some connections are just over this.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Presumably from SIN-EU but not Aus-SIN-EU?

I believe the situation has changed but we had a LM SQ J in Nov 2013. We did SYD-SIN-DEL. SYD-SIN was 777-200ER & SIN-SYD was 380-800. I actually thought the crew on the 380 struggled with the full J cabin-maybe there were circumstances I was unaware of but I thought I received better service previously when I was in upper deck Y-not full in Y & I had an exit seat so that obviously helped on that particular flight

For test I just tried a dummy booking SYD-MCO in November using all available options. The search engine is soooooo slow. Result was no availability in J and limited flights out in Y but nothing back (Sold Out). Did another SYD-ARN also nothing available.
So 2 questions; firstly is the search engine so slow for everyone else as well, and what do you need to do to get a result? There is just no way, with my present knowledge of booking on LM, I would consider buying points as I just can't find availability anywhere.

Did a quick search - 1pax. SYD-ARN in TG J came up on 1,5,8,9,12,16,17,19,22,23,24,26,29 and 30 Nov.

Did you specify the airline for the search or leave the default option?

Assuming that this would involve UA, my understanding is that there are a lot of issues involving LM UA availability at the moment...the tricksters are getting very worried by it!

I used the Smart Search (multiple airline) option. It just hates me.

Well don't use that. The website needs to be coerced into showing things. If you know there is a TG/TG option, specify TG. Even specifying the departure time can change the result. Those really in the know tinker with the page if the departure time they want isn't shown in the drop down...again this can influence the result.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Thanks bcworld. I will try that. Does it speed up the search at all, it takes forever.

My TG search was fast. When I tried SYD-MCO it was slower but not ridiculous. MCO is an airport that Avianca flies to and over on FT people are reporting zero availability in this scenario...it's been going on for a while and knowing LM it might not change for a long time!

Yes that is much quicker and some availability as well. :) Do you book separate sectors individually or try the multiple city option, or try to book say SYD to say EWR and see what cities it throws up?

The problem transpac is that UA availability is very poor - there was a period when you could easily get 2 seats SYD-LAX Monday-Thursday - then it reverted back to the situation now. Let's assume NZ is a complete non starter. So your final option is to look for a way via Asia. I think the website can show OZ options like SYD-ICN-LAX. EG try 03 Nov for 1 pax...it comes up...with 60 minute connection time. Again, it's totally dependant on the connection time...if it goes over roughly about 8 hours...forget it.

If you use multi city you'll pay for each segment individually.

I believe the situation has changed but we had a LM SQ J in Nov 2013.

On 22 November 2013 I booked 2 x seats CMB-SIN-SYD on SQ for travel this month :).

First time I've travelled on SQ .

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Haha I'm scooting it to SIN when going on my LM redemption... I ended up cancelling the SIN-LHR and heading to IST instead... The longgg way

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Signed up last week and now a 2 for 1 deal on miles.

So many cheap J fares... Amazing.

Pity I have no leave available and no pending trips to book for :(

Would love to use my new found knowledge straight away!
