re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

thanks for the help, i'll have a play around

i have read about Guam and the US being the same zone, this intrigues me with the current double points offer ;)

Be very careful! One of those pesky bloggers just got very burned playing that game! If you do play, and the website offers you a tantalising option on BR...politely decline and stick to UA!

A ticket from the mainland US to GUM is considered a domestic flight - regulations (cabotage) state that only a US carrier can carry you on that trip. However the LM website is known to offer options on BR - e.g. LAX-TPE-GUM. This particular blogger knew full well the ticket was illegal but wen't ahead regardless, probably with the intention of blogging some pics of Dom and Rimowa amenity kits rather than an ice cream sundae! They were denied boarding at LAX by BR (who could be heavily fined for transporting the pax, and have been in the past). Now said blogger is taking their case to the DoT and causing a lot of angst in the LM trick it community who don't want all the attention!

It's the kind of thing you think only happens to Mr 2233! :D

the united services ex GUM are 'domestic' first class... not even lie flats.

i dont think anyone cares about that, the lie flats are on the routes like EWR-NRT, the people aren't actually taking the onward flights to guam....

I had the pleasure of dealing with the LM US call centre today. All I needed was to change the date on one of the bookings I did last night.
First, I must say that I appreciate they didn't charge me changing fee (I think it's $150 according to the T&Cs) but the whole process took 65 long minutes!!
Now I feel even more lucky I can at least do the bookings online.

Good work. I agree that the online ability is a plus (even with the clunkiness).

I have heard that there are some FF programs that have actually removed the ability to book some types of awards online! Unbelievable.

Found the blogger (I believe) you were talking about.

Considerable effort was invested in keeping the gory details quiet and attempting to cover up the perpetrator. Not sure why.

Are the GUM and xx_ tricks available for new bookings? I read about the denied boarding problems, but I can't even see availability from the mainland US to either GUM or xx_, even on days when United.com shows that there is availability.

Edited. Sorry-- Flyertalk makes it seem like everything is out in the open over here. My question still stands-- Are they dead? I actually want to visit one of those cities (rather than do some kind of throwaway), but I can't find availability on LM...

Is it worth calling the LM call center to book an award? I can see the segments individually just fine (all in the same class of service), but I can't get them to appear as a single valid itinerary on a tricked award...

Come on redcat you're going to need to put a little effort in to reading this thread. That question has been asked and answered at least in the last few pages of this thread.

Just did a couple of bookings and when checking using PNR on SQ site it asks to confirm flights before 12th May. (Leaving next friday.)

Do I just press confirm selected flight?

Mea culpa. I found what I was looking for. Thanks for whipping some discipline into me ;)

I think that means they haven't been ticketed yet...just leave them alone for now I'd say.
