re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

2 Qs re bookings I've made using Avianca miles please:
1) Is ringing Asiana up the only way of selecting seats in the J cabin?
2) Can you select seats on SQ in the Y cabin? If so, is it by ringing SQ up?
thanks

I have booked flights with LM on both carriers and I selected seats over the phone. Quick & easy.

you can select seats in the SQ Y cabin on line. Did this for a friend of mine visiting now - the flights are absolutely packed... but going back to the seat plan daily meant we were able to move them from a middle of a block of three to an aisle. But it took 6 days to find one seat on one flight, then another on another etc. Doing it on line is the best way if your flight is packed like theirs.

Thanks for that...strange, tried to retrieve booking online via SQ website a couple of weeks ago, and couldn't but tonite...hey presto, managed to retrieve booking and select seats :). However, still hoping that 2x J award seats open up within the T-14 day window, so can rebook into the J cabin:)

SQ MMB wont allow you to select seats until e-ticket is issued. Once issued you should not have any problems selecting seats / meals.

I have found SQ's MMB a bit spotty - sometimes it will let you in to select seats etc, sometimes it won't. I've found if it doesn't work I just wait a day or two and then it will.

+1 and could not agree more. The purpose of forums such as this one is NATURALLY to share/discuss ideas etc.

Agree on the bloggers, but sometimes even on here we are quick to point newcomers to LM / US deals.

Just as ageneral observation & only quoting you for context, I am not sure that such a big % of people are LM users. Just back from Europe using LM in F, 3 of us on 1st leg (10 seat cabin) & 6 on 2nd leg (10 seat cabin)

True, but given that the number of F seats are limited, it doesn't take much to exhaust availability. Again SYD-BKK-SYD seems to be the worst affected.

I have never had an issue once tickets are issued, which of course is where Avianca is spotty.

nah I have definitely had problems even after its issued (I even got SQ to resend me the eticket once to be sure - which they did)

on that note, don't hesitate to call them either - I've found I get through pretty much instantaneously and they are very very helpful

I found that a very small (minutes) timechange in a sector caused SQ to lock out the booking from online management. That is, while the sector status (on CMT) was 'confirmed, timechange' as opposed to plain old 'confirmed'. This of course was after ticketing, but pending acceptance of changes, which were never notified of course,

Guys which option is better TG 773 J (bkk-mel) or OZ 772 J (icn-syd) in terms of overall experience (lounge, seat, service, food, etc) for an overnight flight I realise both angled flat so was wondering who wins out on the other factors ?

I need to have a plan B in case I end up failing to secure SQ J at T-14.

Thanks.

slight edge to OZ... at least in terms of service and food. Tee lounges for both are pretty average. Friend of mine returned two days ago on TG ex BKK... they had the full flat beds which were great, but they said the rest of the food, service, lounge had gone downhill since their trip with TG last year and they wouldn't be flying TG again unless they had full flats. They have been flying TG for the last 3-4 years and have noticed the slow decline.

My vote is for TG. Currently (until Oct 25) both daily flights are (planned to be) operated by 773ER with full flat beds...for an overnight flight that is the clincher.

Based on minimal experience, I don't like OZ. The J lounge at ICN is nothing special, and I have found service and food on board also nothing to get excited about (quite the opposite in fact)...the same applies to TG of course.

has there been a change to the second TG flight ex MEL? it is still showing as a regular angled seat according to the TG service guide (ie night time departure ex BKK showing angled)

Actually it seems no, no yet, looking at FR. But it does seem that it soon changes based on a few random date checks. I wouldn't rely on that TG PDF, it is out of date as soon as it is made. Check the seat map for the day you plan to fly.

Even if it was another TG 777 type, I'd still take it over OZ! Especially if my final destination is MEL.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Cheers guys.

Flight is planned for early April next year. Will either of the BKK-MEL flights be 77W fully flats for then ? (Aware that aircraft can change esp with TG etc but just keen to know what the schedule is).
MEL as my final destination is also what will probably tip it over the line for me esp if there's a chance of a fully flat bed (OZ seems like no chance lol).
