I'm freakin' sick of trying to work out what is OK to share and what will get me yelled at, so am now retreating into lurker mode.

If that refers to my last post you are being over sensitive. I was making a casual observation and certainly not yelling.

Considering the continual discussion here and elsewhere on lifemiles its no wonder half the population are onto it and taking the seats.
No. It's the bloggers that kill it for everyone. You don't like sharing in a forum, then don't participate.

Where in my post did I say I dont want to share? I just said the continual discussion both here and on blogs and on other forums has NATURALLY led to more seats being taken. Im not talking about tricks here.

+1 and could not agree more. The purpose of forums such as this one is NATURALLY to share/discuss ideas etc.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

I booked 2 flights in J ICN - SYD over the Xmas period. I booked them a few days after securing 2 tickets in F on LH so it was within 14 days of departure but it didn't get to the 7 days and under stage.

Sorry, doesnt really help you much but I'd say it was around the ten day period.

Good luck

I booked TPE / ICN - SYD on OZ for last year and the booking was made probably 9-10 months before the flight.

Wasn't impressed with them though. Loop style IFE, and the seat didn't recline enough to be comfortable - would wake every every hour or so with sore heels as the weight of my body was resting on the foot rest.

If TG is available I'd suggest taking the more scenic route with them.

I too prefer TG to OZ based on my limited experience (ICN-HNL-ICN-HKG). IFE was OK on the A330 / 747 and I knew what seats I was getting (no better than any TG seat) but food and especially service was surprisingly poor given their reputation.

Just as ageneral observation & only quoting you for context, I am not sure that such a big % of people are LM users. Just back from Europe using LM in F, 3 of us on 1st leg (10 seat cabin) & 6 on 2nd leg (10 seat cabin)

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

It may be mostly in Y, but TG's load factors (59%) are absolutely shocking at the moment.

Thai Airways International pax down 31%, with 59% load factor in Jun-2014, cargo down 1% | CAPA - Centre for Aviation

  • Passenger load factor: 59.2%, -10 ppts;
    • Domestic: 60.5%, -5.0 ppts;
    • Regional: 60.2%, -13.0 ppts;
    • Australia: 61.5%, -8.2 ppts;
    • Europe: 56.3%, -7.7 ppts;
    • North Pacific: 74.9%, -6.1 ppts;
    • Africa: 48.4%, -10.8 ppts;

Perhaps flights are going out full up the front, filled with reward bookings, but I'd find it surprising if that was the case.

As ever I'd continually keep an eye on TG bookings on airlineroute etc. Yesterday it was posted LHR dropping to 12 a week (from 14) during Sep / Oct. I'd expect to see more and more service reductions from them.

Also on TG...it looks to me like MEL will lose its daily 777-300ER service (TG461/2) in the (northern) winter timetable. I have a booking in Jan and the seat map has never shown the 77W, but has changed from 773 to 772ER over time.

I had a similar experience recently on TG F, on 3 out of the 4 legs I've been on there were only 3 pax in the cabin and judging by the emptiness of the F lounge in BKK, it doesn't seem to be any different on other routes.

Yep not good that their loads are so low. I wouldn't pay much attention to the aircraft allocation until they actually release the timetable for the Northern winter, they are perennially slow at doing this so could be at least another couple of months until it is updated. I have a booking over Christmas and it is showing the older 777-200ER on the MEL-BKK route but will see what happens. It is definitely the 777-300ER up until the end of October, it changes at the start of November. They are actually using the 300ER on 465/466 as well, so all flights to/from MEL have the flat seats in business.

I think it might be correct though that 77W goes from MEL. Reason being, TG operates additional frequency to Scandinavian markets during northern winter...and as we all know they like to send these nice planes to CPH, ARN, OSL selling the lovely full flat beds as premium economy!

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

The latest product guide (Travel Agents Only l Thai Airways) is only valid through to the end of October, who knows what could change after that. Going in to peak travel season towards the end of the year so hopefully the schedule out of MEL holds up with the 2 x daily.

Just playing around on their website (Thai Airways | Smooth as Silk), it wouldn't help their sales that any destination I search for in Europe in economy or business/first just returns the following error message:

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

My joyful experience today:
I made an award redemption today. When I went to pay for it, it said the transaction could not be processed, however it still debited the miles from my account anyway, I have not received the confirmation email either

The itinerary was on Thai Airways

I do not have any reservation number as it told me it did not process. I have sent an email to them but of course cannot make the booking again as the miles are now gone. And because I have no reference number cannot ring Thai airways about it either!!

Any similar experiences, and results or advice?

Just call Avianca call centre and make sure you get though to the Lifemiles department. Quote your membership number and they will be able to pull up all your booking reference numbers associated with your account.

That has happened to me a few times and they will manually process the CC and email you eticket.

Why don't they start selling FF points in their own program with similar pricing with LM?? Just an idea...

They have just destroyed their own FF program and alienated a lot of their own flyers who actually spend money flying on them so that won't help either. It is pretty much the most expensive program in the world now.

Yep. Parents new F cabin 747 BKK-LHR was cancelled and they were put on a flight 11 hours later on an old F A346.

They haven't recently recruited people from Qantas management, have they??!! ;-)

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

2 Qs re bookings I've made using Avianca miles please:
1) Is ringing Asiana up the only way of selecting seats in the J cabin?
2) Can you select seats on SQ in the Y cabin? If so, is it by ringing SQ up?
thanks
