re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Don't believe that is the case.

Neither do I. I bought into the UA offer, there was no mention of sharing anything with anyone .Too good a deal to pass up for South Asia zone.

that's exactly the case

Not really. The bonus got bigger the more people that took part (allegedly) in total. It was not reliant on individuals sharing with people and those people taking part which I think you suggested. Prior to buying the bonus level was already known, i.e. this morning it was already showing 100%...it seems likely that UA falsely bumped up the participant numbers rather than it being real I suspect.

The only catch being that getting 100% bonus you'll need to sign up 16 friends for the promotion and they must buy the points before your get your bonus

Not so.

unfortunately can't post the pictorial explanation in the email that shows how it works so just sort of copying it below

1) buy miles - receive at least 35% bonus
2) share with others to get everyone on board - the more people who buy miles the bigger your bonus
3) then there is a picture showing that if one more person you sign up buys miles you get 40%, if 2 - 45% etc up to 100% (16 people)

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

and we digress anyway, that's a thread about LifeMiles, not United Miles

So after months of lurking, and hours of trawling the site, thank yous go out to one and all for the info provided. It is very complex and daunting, but with time i got the hang of it and the nerve. Now about that flight to europe next june....
You're going to start regretting lurking for 7 years!

This isn't how it worked. Have a look at this thread (http://www.australianfrequentflyer....plus/100-bonus-buying-mileage-plus-62735.html) and link Buy award miles and receive up to 100% bonus miles.

It has ended now but it definitely was open to everyone at the 100% level, no need to get another 16 people as you were saying. It was based on all of UA's FF's as a whole, so as you will see on the chart once 4500 people had bought then the bonus hit 100%.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Figuring it out but likely a stop in ICN using OZ

Fair enough, I can see through some dummy searches that could work.

Will you likely go the whole way in J, or split the journey for a premium and go F on the long sector?

May do the latter if it's possible

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Well the latter is really just creating two bookings - e.g. one from SYD to ICN (no F available) in J, then another ticket from ICN to LAX in F.

Because it's two separate bookings, that is why I said "premium" and "split the journey", i.e. the cost will naturally be much more than just a straight SYD to (say) LAX with mere transit. Of course, if you make two bookings, you need to be careful if you have a moderate to short transit between them at ICN, as you are technically not protected.

Remember that AV LM redemptions can only be booked in a single class of service for all sectors.

I guess it might not be a bad idea if you've always had an inkling to go to South Korea (at least two vacations in one trip)... of course, you can mix things up, e.g. book SYD-ICN in J, then ICN-LAX in F, then LAX-SYD via ICN in J (i.e. don't care too much about the return journey so just fly in J).

I went to Seoul a couple of years ago and absolutely loved it, I think the family would too :)

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Cheers Jess, just added 150K to the war chest for the next family trip to the LOTFAP :D
I'm unable to buy any more Lifemiles using this promo as I have already bought 150K this year:(...so +1 has bought another 150K;). Looking through our 2 accounts, we seem to have bought over 1.8 million Lifemiles since I learnt about this program:shock::shock::shock::shock:

I have bought over 700k since July this year - thanks to knightman7! :)

Hopefully TG will reinstate BKK-SYD in F...

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

May I suggest "the long way".

I am heading there later this year transiting BKK, MXP, FCO, MUC, FRA and IAD along the way.

Miss DC but IAD was a PITA for transport to from DC proper.

How many tickets did you need to make that?

If this entire itinerary fit onto one ticket then that must be an uber trick...
