re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Excellent thanks, thought OH had an account too but it seems not so he is not eligble for the bonus but have now signed him up anyway

Is there anyway you can get them to extend the offer to someone just signing up? I really cant undesrtand why the offer is only extended to existing members-kinda goes against the norm where offers are only extended new joining members?

To be eligible for the 2-4-1 bonus you must be an existing member on the date the promotion is announced. No way around that rule.

Some other programs have similar restrictions - for example USDM accounts must be at least 12 days old.

I guess in part it stops dodgy travel agents signing up unsuspecting clients for a miles deal, paying reduced prices, but charging the client full whack.

Heading USA, neither LM or AA is any good,

Again - for short notice, LM is ok for redemptions to the USA. UA generally releases fairly good availability in business and First classes a few days before departure. Last time I searched for UA it was available next day, in F. That's a pretty good feature!

Dam, I guess I'll just have to wait another couple of months for their next offer...

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

So regarding T-14 availability for SQ, does that mean for example that if I was to book an SQ reward flight for departure tomorrow, I would have no chance of booking a return leg with SQ at the same time unless the trip is for less 14 days? I'd just have to book the return leg with another available airline for any trip of a longer duration?

I assume the answer is clear, but just want to be sure I'm not overlooking something.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

edit*

Sorry I didn't see the little print at the top saying that the prices were each way, only that they are based on rtn journey. that is a bit of a rip off all right.

correct.

Although I have friends who use LM to go home for say Chirstmas, then book their return while they're away. They have flexibility a couple days each way and it works for them if they want SQ. (Thai usually has availability if all else fails!)

Just be mindful regarding entering a country without the return leg booked

Thanks, yeah that was what I was thinking could be an option. As also pointed out above though, I had wondered what the risks where around not having a return leg with border officials.

Yes, UA is known to release some last minute seats. But I still wouldn't call it "OK". I just did a dummy search, SYD-LAX in the next 14 days, I could only find Nov 30, and Dec 9, both weren't with UA, but Asiana and TG. Zero SYD-SFO. So I am not sure how useful it is for most people.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Flying to USA you can use United which is excellent in First class. Availability is generally good a couple days to a week before departure.

Have you (or anyone) flown UA F ex-LAX ? Which lounge do you get to use ? I see United have their own lounge but the *A lounge looks better ? Is the *A lounge better ? Are you entitled to use it ?
Thanks

generally you won't be allowed to board in australia unless you meet the immigration requirements for the country you indent to enter (and in some cases this is extended to countries you intend to transit).

but many people are dual nationals, or may have PR here and hold citizenship elsewhere (ie 'go home' for Christmas).

Yep, that definitely makes sense. Thanks.

agree... next week isn't looking so good for availability... but that's why it's not a bad idea to have miles across a range of programs. even when I had my USDM award to america via HKG I would have changed, the day before, to United non-stop if I could (as it was there was only one way UA, and SQ J the other, so I stuck with CX).

True. That's what LM is good for. And I would stick with CX over UA too :p

Re: New Avianca "Life iles" 100% promo

I had a bit of toruble with getting my 28K of miles in the current promotion. Email through to the service centre sorted it out for me.

Just noticed that the system is now allowing me to buy another 31K with bonus - more than that and it doesn't give me any bonus miles.

So possibly if anyone is a little short you might be able to guy a few more bonus miles if you give the system a few days.

Re: New Avianca "Life iles" 100% promo

Avianca have a special on where you get a cyber monday extra bonus on miles

I'm buying 30K of miles but get 37.5K as bonus

Drops the cost to $14.66 per 1000 points

So if you're hesitating to top up now might be the time to bite the bullet

I'm trying to buy, but going round in circles. It keeps asking for my CC details, which I am inputting. Round and round we go :(

Which credit card are you using? Have you notified the bank to expect a debit from Sth America? Have you got a Citi card to use-costs on the exchange but pick up on the points

I've always used my 28 degree MC. Never had any problems. Just logged in to my 28 degree account and it shows $1.18 debit, which I assume is a test debit. Still not going through. Plenty of credit. No requests coming through from 28 degree to confirm transaction.
