re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

Yeah, I think you can still find pretty reasonable availability of seats on my sweet spot route which is a Asia to Europe or there abouts.... And even though I have heaps of QF points and USDM, with this bonus deal and the A$ where it is I decided to top up with another 50,000 miles which is the miles componenet for a couple of J flights to Europe...

I usually use my Citibank plus debit card for these purchases, 0% foreign exchange fee while most credit cards will add 3% or so to the purchase price, but only had about A$400 sitting in it so had to use a mix of that and another bank Amex....

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

66,000 + bonus = 148,500

Visa declined on 1st attempt.

2nd attempt 15min later went through.

In between, I spoke to Citibank who could see a nominal charge of $1.19 from Avianca !!!!

Citibank did not block, nor unblock anything in response to my call.

So do they test charge a nominal amount to see if the card is real ?

What would happen if I had not proceeded with the 2nd attempt ? Auto-reversal ?

Its not a charge, just a preauth that will drop eventually

I had the horrors with my 28 degree card last night. There are 3 $1.18 test charges on my account, but the transaction just wouldn't go through. I must have been trying for at least 30 minutes. Tried my card, then Jnr's card, then my card..... Had to use my Amex unfortunately.

I expect the test charges to drop off in a couple of days.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

umm'ing and ahhh'ing with an hour to go. haven't bought any this year and also seeing the 66k + bonus figure.

what F is available on LM besides TG? please PM me if looking to keep the freeriders out!

It's no secret so no need to pm. To and from Aus, not many F other than TG (it almost got killed) from *A, maybe CA sometimes, and very rarely UA at T-14.

But if you look outside of Aus, lots of options. Asiana LAX-ICN is usually pretty good. ANA from USA to NRT is also quite reasonable. Both about 90000 one way.

There aren't that many airlines that still offer F anyway.

And with TG theres aren’t THAT many routes with F anyway!

SYD, CDG, HKG, LHR, ZHR, MUC and MXP usually have good to excellent F availability
KIX and HND usually only have 1 F seat released at a time (and may not release anymore)
FRA and NRT may have no F seats released (NRT is by far the hardest TG route to get)

I've bolded those routes where at least some flights are A380.

SYD-BKK-HKG for 50k in F is a real sweet spot on the LM chart.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

I just noticed I got a 5K TAC bonus to my account today.

Not sue what that was about. Not complaining with the extra 15K of points on top of the 100% promo

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

I got an extra 5000 miles for no reason after buying the 30k yesterday and 37.5k bonus yesterday. The activity simply states "TACA bonus miles TACA!" Did it happen to anyone else? Woo hoo! Bought 30000 and got 42500 bonus miles, that's 1.365 cents per mile!

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

Yee ha…. Yep, another 5,000!!!!

I got a 10% bonus on top of the other bonus. Lifemiles must be feeling particularly generous today
