Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

it is a glitch... using the multicity tool I could get results for TG/TG (the second flight leaving just after midnight, so 'bookable' using the multicity tool), but unfortunately priced as two separate awards.

The availability is there - either sector by sector on LM, or on United as a single award... just something screwy with the LM booking engine.

SQ may well have withdrawn a whole bunch of seats given the $3500 fare deal.

Any tips on the multi-city?

Trying to book CAN-BKK-MEL but it's asking for a 3rd city? If I put CAN in the last box it does spit out availability for the first two flights however errors when I click continue.. ?

The multi city has to return to the original origin. So you won't be able to book MEL-BKK-CAN-BKK-MEL with the TG situation.

Ahh understood.

after signing in to LM, I used the 'contact us' and selected account enquiries fromthe drop down.

took about 24 hours for the first reply, less for the second.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

Thankfully some BKK-MEL availability opened up for the 20th so I'm somewhat of a happy camper now :)

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

could be.

but that doesn't explain the SQ disappearing at exactly the same time as TG connections. TG seems to have opened up a little again - double daily available MEL-BKK, and double daily BKK-PVG - just can't book them as a through ticket :(

I think Lifemiles are probably trying to work on fixing a few of the remaining 'tricks' and have inadvertently stuffed up some code somewhere.... and this is affecting ex- Australia availability somehow. All the bragging going on in the forums about how people are dropping sectors to use less miles probably hasn't helped to be honest. Once upon a time people were a little discreet about these things, but not anymore.

I do agree, it can't be a coincidence that ex-Australia connections via BKK have stopped working at the same moment as all SQ availability. With regards to the through BKK connections, they are working just fine ex-Asia... e.g. hkg-bkk-fra etc, so it seems odd they dont work ex-Australia. I hope that the problem will be fixed soon. In the meantime I still see plenty of ways to use the miles elsewhere in the world.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

Lifemiles.com is up and down like a yo-yo today. Looks like there might be a few software release issues at their end. Hopefully they are trying to implement code fixes for the recent "glitches".

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

With the decrease in AUD things are starting to look pretty expensive (relative to 12 months ago). I know $3,500 to Europe is still pretty good for a business class but when you travel with the +1 you start to wonder if paying for 'early bird' economy tickets instead and using the $3000 or so saved for a weeks accommodation. Again, Life Decisions about Life Miles.

or an alternative might be 'mixed class' fares (coach to SIN or BKK) followed by AY/QR/AI/UL from there? Saves around $2000 per couple for not too much pain.

I thought the $3500 deal was simply a SQ glitch and it's actually economy fare. SQ has withdrawn that and is asking the travel agent/passenger to pay the difference, or go back to economy, or get full refund.

So there was never a $3500 deal.

Are we talking about the same thing or have I missed something?

Exactly. I am seriously looking at CX J ex TPE fares now as well, often in China so could work well if I can get dates together.

The other option is using LM to get to SIN/BKK and buying cheaper J fares rtn for EU.

I think he was talking about the cost of flying J AU to EU using LM.
It becomes more and more expensive to buy points now as the exchange rates keep dropping.
At least LM lowered the cost of redemptions ex AU, that's a positive.

while using LM to asia would give you the benefit of a stopover, I'm not sure it would work out financially? return LM to asia is around $1500 in business. combine that with 1800-2200 for asia-europe and you could be paying more than outright business via LM.

Im pretty sure SQ have decided to honour the fares in the end.

Good deal for those that got them and good on SQ for copping it, im sure theyll ensure no confusion with changed fare classes now.

Correct but remember paying a revenue fair you get SCs/Points as well..

In other news, LM has bumped up my balance to buy up to 250,000 this year. I'm sure others just got the email.

If that's the case, it sure explains why all the disappearance of award spaces. SQ have no choice but give away all the award space to people who actually paid $3500. It also explains why NRT-LAX space is still available because the glitch seem to be limited to European destinations from what I read. So hopefully it will eventually become available again. (It's my rational analysis to hold onto some hope!)

However, award space is still pretty good using KF.

Got this as well, although there's no way I'll buy the additional 100k until the LM "glitch" (or whatever it turns out to be) has been fixed.

Yup, I was referring to AUS-EUR redemptions.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

MH miles + pay is a reasonable alternative as well.

Still around the $3500 return to Europe.

At least you don't have to provide them your money till you make the booking, so a bit less risk.
