re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

Hey all,

Hoping someone could clarify a quick J question. Did I read previously that TG flights to Scandinavia don't operate a J class or didn't in the past? CPH is an option but want to confirm that they are operating a proper (by TG standards anway) J class from this region. I might be completely wrong but could have sworn I saw post alluding to this.

what you probably refer to is how TG used to sell their J seats in Scandinavia as "premium economy". These were proper J seats (angle lie flat) but sold at lower prices

Ah that makes more sense - I see their flying the 777-300 out of CPH and ARN. Can I expect the same angled seats that they use from MEL to BKK?

I believe TG used to sell J seats and premium economy on these routes. On three class aircraft, J would get F seats, W would get J.

On two class aircraft, J got J and W also got J. Making W one of the best value revenue fares out there.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

yes, the same

No, not the same. I'm pretty sure all these flights are operated by 77W...which TG does refer to as 777-300. Full flats in J and premium economy!

Yes, the same because the equipment is shown as 777-300, not 77W to Copenhagen. Angle lie flat

Interestingly I tend to agree with MEL as the seat plan shows the staggered J which makes me think it's full flat J.

Edit: Flights booked :)

Scandinavian flights have been all 77W operated for ages...and very reliably so. TG refers to the aircraft as 777-300 on their website. If an older product 777 is planned it is typically shown on the website as 777-200/300.

And if the prices went up you would have been smiling at yourself.

Ummm....which is why I used that as an example of how buying tickets can be a gamble at the best of times....

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

Letting people know that the recent problems appear to be a glitch in the system as they are willing to process bookings manually if you send them screenshots of the connecting flights you are after.
I managed to book MEL-HKG ex BKK on TG for next September.

Below is the email I got from their support department after sending through all the details:

Greetings Mr. JonovaWe have verified the attached images and we were able to book the reservation code xx_XX with the following itinerary on Business Cabin:

  • Flight: TG 462 Date: 24/SEP/15 Route: MEL-BKK Hours: 23:30 to 06:00+1
    Flight: TG 628 Date: 25/SEP/15 Route: BKK-HKG Hours: 10:45 to 14:30
For your reference, I have sent the itinerary confirmation to your email address. This booking is quoted at 40,000 Miles in Business Cabin plus the ticket taxes and Star Alliance redemption fee (keeping the price offered on our website).
It is important to mention that if the booking needs any correction (names or itinerary), you must not process the payment and request the correction before; as no changes will be permitted after processing the payment.

If you agree with this itinerary and the required mileage per this route, it is necessary that you confirm us within the following 24 hours, to request our specialized department to call and process the manual payment.
We look forward to your response.
Kind regards,

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

Thanks for the feedback Jonova - helpful, and throws a lifeline!

Hopefully they'll use this to fix their systems. Although given some of the lead time to fix past 'issues' (GUM) it could take months! :(

Hooray!!! Thanks for the information.

Do you mind also post your email (don't worry about screenshot) and see what wording you used to make it work? Because apparently others didn't have such luck.

It took a few emails to get to this point. I originally sent them an email with no specific travel information asking if there was an issue with their booking system. They came back with the generic terms and conditions reply that most people were getting. I then went back to them with specific dates and flights, and they asked for screenshots and my details, which I sent through.
The email with the screenshots was a pretty basic email with my details (Name, DOB, Gender). I then attached 3 screenshots showing the individual flights that could be booked separately and then a screenshot showing the results if searched as a single booking showing no availability.

They have sent through the itinerary from Amadeus. Going to check if I can pay with miles/cash instead of just cash.

Yes, this should be the new fully flat product. MrsTB flew back from OSL (July) & ARN (October) this year and had the 77W full flat all the way home each time, apparently very comfortable. When researching the bookings earlier in the year I noticed that OSL seemed to be the first to go daily with the new product, where CPH and ARN varied with older product on some days. However by Sept 2014 77W was quite consistent on all three routes (ARN, CPH, OSL). If EF shows the staggered seat map you should be in luck, barring last minute EQV.

Fly well.

That's good news Jonova, did you emailed them at a specific address or did you just start the email from their website?

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - Questions and Discussion

I contacted them on the 'Contact Us' link on their website.

When I click contact us it gives some online form. Do you have a direct email address to contact so I can attach images?
