re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

just did the screenshot method the other day

jfk - icn - bkk - per in J
OZ - OZ - TG

relatively smooth process. received many calls from them but missed it. in the end had to call the customer svc line (this was a hit and miss) who managed the payment on my behalf (had to take credit card details and communicate it to a different department whilst i was on the line)

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

What problem are you experiencing? Everyone all had some problem with LM website from time to time. That's part of LM's feature. Many times not a big issue and will fix by itself. Others are permanent like the IT glitch since last year but we overcame that by screenshot. So please be more specific so we can help you.

Sorry - that was vague, just can't seem to use the search award function, it keeps timing out. simple bookings eg bkk to bne

That's one of those problems that fixes itself with time. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just try again later in the day and it should be fine.

Other common problem is the website just becomes so slow for no reason. Others include when you book your flight, put in all the pax's information, and input credit card detail, and you click "pay now", and after processing your CC for about 10 min and it crashes. Nothing really new. LM website are known to be very buggy.

Thanks for letting us know. That's great, it proves that screenshot technic actually opened up a new door. Such itinerary would have never showed up on search engine!

i did this the other day. just register at insideflyer, then 24 hours later, you will automatically be able to purchase lifemiles at their website at the better rate. :) no emails or anything...

Thanks for that - it worked this time - just took more than 24 hours to register.

Presumably 80,000 points... this is also a nice option, and I don't necessarily agree that it wouldn't have been possible before:

Thanks! I predicted up to 150% bonus. So if you have registered with inside flyer, it's 150% in total! Time to buy! (Assuming the extra 10% promo still applies)

Doesn't appear to, but happy for someone to correct me.

Anyone think its worth waiting to Monday to see whetehr there is anything else or is this as good as it gets if there is not Insider Flyer bonus

I went online and tried it, unfortunately I'm wrong this time.... Looks like with the cyber weekend no further promo can be applied. So 140% bonus it is....

It mightn't be as good as last time with the inside flyer promo where you can max out with 145%, but for that you need to purchase at least 100k miles, or $3300 USD which is a lot of money. Whereas this cyber weekend promo doesn't seem to be tiered so you can buy as little as you need.

Personally I'm thinking of buying a bit just to top up my account a bit as this is one of the best offer so far. LM is quite useful now, with the discovery of screenshot and NH servicing SYD, we have a lot more options other than just TG. I'm sure someone will disagree with me, but I'm happy at 140%.

I'm sure someone will disagree with me again and still think AA is a better program.

What bit of "horses for courses" did you not understand? Why not stick to rational calculations based on value rather than making pointless red-cordial-fueled "only viable option" claims?

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Fine. The tribe has spoken. I'll leave you all to it. Not like I have anything to share about LifeMiles anyway.

Firstly, I would like to apologize if my comment was offensive. I didn't mean you specifically.

The reason I brought in AA is because Tania73 asked about AA vs LM initially. The debate between AA vs LM is not just between me and you, but many of my other friends and other online channels. It is essentially Star Alliance vs Oneworld, the two competing alliances. So it's a bit like which political party you vote for and everyone has their opinions.

With both programs selling their miles at a record low, and with an incoming AA devaluation, I had a lot of debates recently (not just you) and I have to say, many oneworld supporters believes AA is still a better program, and they choose to buy AA miles this time. I fully respect that if they find value in it. I have agreed with you several times, horses for courses, and I intend to continue to use AA for redemptions to Asia. I have also given you my calculations in that I find saving $500 USD I could easily purchase JR pass and travel anywhere in Japan. That was my rational calculation and I find value in it. You don't have to agree with me if you prefer to fly and that is perfectly fine.

So, there really isn't a "better" program but each has its pros and cons. But I personally find better value for me to buy LM at 140% because I will have good use of it.

And thanks to Little Fokker's reminder that my comment could possibly stir people up (like I said, it's two competing alliance), I'll delete that last bit of comment.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

The biggest "con" I have with LM is that it is rather fiddly to use and the availability is not always easy to pin down. The availability, even without thinking of the screenshot workaround, doesn't always match the most common *A availability (it is often a smaller subset). I've heard people cheese the availability at times by using script and HTML tricks, but oh hell......

Even then, I probably can't afford to continue with AA and might have to switch to LM if I want to continue flying J (or F) at affordable prices. Of course, I could go back to basics and just simply earn enough points through flying to get what I want. And there's also SQ sweeps from Amex MR...

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Seems LM are hving issues with booking connecting flights into Australia now.

seems trying to get from LHR or CDG with 1 pax is doable, but for 2 it doesn't show any flights

Go to UA website and quite easy to get 2 J back to sydney every day in October 2016

Tempted to buy witht he current promo but the effort required to book with LM these days puts me off them

If you search for the availability for 2 people on each of the component sectors (rather than all at once ex-LHR or ex-CDG), do you get anything, or it still says none?
