re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Options options options, do I choose F in the Thai A380 and 747 with a expensive positioning flight or J with SQ to get home in two weeks????

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Is it just me or are Syd to Lax/ Sfo flights in J on UA almost impossible to find now??

Yup...they seem to have gone (again).

I always thought that's mostly been the case (for both UA J and F).

Even UA's own elites have trouble getting availability, let alone burning their GPUs on the route.

It's become so bad that I think it's virtually impossible to cross the Pacific in J or F if you want to use *A redemption. You need to go via Asia (viz. OZ or NH).

i raise a similar issue on FT re MEL > SFO/LAX - bloody ridiculous now

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

From past experience, did they come back?

The way it is now (no availability) was the way it 'traditionally' was. At some point last year they started having good availability Mon - Thu MEL/SYD-LAX & SYD-SFO. It lasted a while & now it seems gone again.

This in turn makes some of the really good values on the Avianca chart for us in Australia/New Zealand (e.g. to Caribbean, Central/Southern America) near enough impossible to get!

I did a reciprocal 50K exchange last night followed by a further 25k just now and it seems to have gone through without a hitch. Time will tell I expect.
Any clawback happened on this? I'm actually pretty confident the 75K overrides the normal 50K limit (just like the AA limits are overridden from time to time), its just that their grasp of English is not good enough to make this clear (as, in fairness, I must note I would be even more unclear in Spanish!).

No, just checked and the miles are still there.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Did my first booking yesterday: Sfo-Icn-Syd in OZ J for 4 pax. All went smoothly apart from the fraud alert phone call from 28 degrees MC. Quick Q pls: how do I go about selecting seats? The Asiana website asks for eticket numbers which I did not get in the single email I got from Avianca....I suppose a phone call to Asiana may be needed for seat selection...

Find your booking using checkmytrip...if ticketed it will list eticket numbers.

First of all you need to sign up for the Asiana FFP. Then you can use the seat assignment function using your Club number + OZ booking reference which you will also get from CMT I think.

The seat assignment function is very clunky and often reports errors but it seems to hold on to your seat choices OK.

If you have a ticket number you can enter this directly into the OZ site without needing to be an OZ member, and without the OZ PNR. Just ticket no and Surname plus first and middle name. Well - at least that works with USDM issued tickets.

"Check My trip" provides an OZ booking reference number but not eticket number....in my experience, "Check my trip" does not always list eticket numbers tho. Tried signing in with my new Club number + OZ booking reference to no avail...

That's exactly the case for USDM issued tickets but the email from Avianca did not contain an eticket number.....

It sounds to me like perhaps it is not ticketed yet. Just checking...you clicked on the passenger name to look for the ticket number?

You might be right that it is not ticketed yet - might be done manually. I booked it yesterday afternoon (early hours Sun am in Sth America), and it is still early hours Monday am there, so I might give it a couple of business days before I check / try again. Don't really want to ring Asiana as yet - after all the travel is for early Jan 2014.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

There was J availability last dec only a few days out departing from HNL to syd via lax or sfo on UA and airNZ

I don't feel comfortable leaving an OZ booking too long before it tickets. OZ have in the past cancelled reservations (or rather they have auto-cancelled) because they haven't received the ticket number in time. Someone reported this just recently. I'd be getting the ticket number from LM asap, and confirming it either directly with OZ or via their webpage (for seat selection) as soon as you can, and well within 48 hours.

Just confirmed with Asiana that they can not see an eticket number; Rang Avianca in US and they asked me to call back in business hours which starts in 5.5 hours.
