re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Oh dear. I guess it depends whether LM would theoretically be happy for us to book redemption flights from CBR or whether they have deliberately removed it from their list of airport codes

I have already flown a redemption flight like this with no problems. So I think if you 'keep it local' you will be fine.

CBR was not removed, it was never added in the first place, which is perhaps more a problem at the LifeMiles end.

The warning came for a *lot* of searches all of a similar vein.

Just a quick question before I buy miles , can I use my miles to book flights for my parents even if I'm not traveling. I've done it before with velocity , I just want to make sure
before I spend 4K on miles

Completely fine. Things can however get a little troublesome if you later have to cancel. But nothing that cannot be resolved with a phone call or two.

4K on miles seems a lot for a one way ticket x 2. Unless you are keeping miles over for yourself?

Many thanks Abdul_A350. I wonder what other intriguing html hacks are possible... :)

Yep I got some left over like for myself , I have only ever booked tickets for myself and not anyone else so just wanted to double check. Ended up getting 2x J class Thai airways tickets from Munich to Perth for the olds

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Nothing obvious. It is a case of pressing F12 (in Chrome) and then entering CBR into the HTML behind the form. You can use the pointer that appears in the developer tools to select the From field. Then look at the corrseponding HTML in the Elements section. Type something recognised in the From field...like MEL. Expand the HTML til you find 'option value="MEL"' - change it to option value="CBR". Then submit your search. Voila!

Wow...... :)

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

What are the rules when it comes to adding flights to a reward.

eg. book the intra asia flights as they are available, leave destination as SIN... then add SIN-xx_ (insert AUS city beach) @ T-14 days?

The intra asia award would be 30k in J per person, adding the leg to AUS would make it 40k - what other charges are involved? Is this possible?

The lifemiles terms and conditions are here: https://www.lifemiles.com/eng/abo/wnb/wnbtercond.aspx

Changes to operating airline are not allowed, changes to route are not allowed. Other changes (date and class of travel) are permitted in certain circumstances for a charge of USD150. (makes it cheaper to cancel for USD50 and make a new booking... but seats may not go back in to inventory).

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Does TG release last minute award seats a la SQ -14 days?

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Not sure if this is a standard rule with Thai but with my last flights to Osaka Thai released first class flights about 72 hours before the flight departed. I then did the screen shot method and it wasn't confirmed and ticked until about 20 hours before departure.

there's a couple issues here. SQ does release additional inventory, but this can happen at any time up until departure. This would first go to clearing waitlists.

t-14 is when SQ makes the bulk of inventory available to partner FF programs. The seats may already exist for kris flyer members, just now they can be booked by everyone (still with some restrictions on aircraft type and class of service).

the release of seats and t-14 may coincide, but not necessarily.

thai has a specific allocation of seats which they release two at a time. once the initial allocation is exhausted, additional seats can be released at any time, right up until departure.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Hi everyone,
i tried to purchase Lifemiles with my AMEX Velocity platinum card just now, but the transaction got blocked by AMEX.
Anyway, i told AMEX the transaction was done by me.
Just wondering, would i encounter the same problem when i use the miles to redeem a flight in the future ?
Or, should i use my Coles Mastercard or NAB premium Velocity VISA (Linked with AMEX) instead ?

Using miles won't have anything to do with AMEX. The block was likely because you spending on the card in multiple countries simultaneously and rang "suspected fraud" alarm bells. It's happened to me occasionally as well.

i assume the question is actually around laying the redemption fee and taxes on the Amex cc when burning the miles. You may run into the problem again, depends on your Amex's fraud control. Mine works fine but I spend too much on the net.

Haha, yeah i have an online shopping addiction too. I better inform AMEX next time
before i redeem the ticket.

Ah, OK. I haven't had any issues in buying airline tix OS but a quick call to AMEX will stop the issue before it occurs, one would think.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Hi guys,
Ignore the time of posting, BNE storm woke me up for once, uncalled for light show at 2:30am lol.

But I checked emails and W/ regards to current promotion on with LM where it's 2X1/ +15/25% more depending on purchase, I just wanted to know if there is a sweet spot. If I was to buy, it would be in the 15% bonus range (51000-100000) and have done 59000 vs 60000 vs 65000 and they all give back 1.534884 cents per mile. Wondering if it's further between the spectrum, I might be up but can't be bothered manually calculating different cents/miles ratios
Thanks

At the end of the day the difference is not that great whatever the bonus. At the 40% bonus that closed recently, a one way AU-Asia would have cost approx USD550 compared to USD600 at the regular 2-4-1. A saving of USD50 one way. For Europe that would equate to around USD100 saving each way.

These bonuses are obviously less, with a reduction in saving over the normal deal. Topping up miles is only going to cost you 1.5c, so if you're getting 1.53c that's about the same, and no need to buy full points now (just the base 40%).
