re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Is anyone else having trouble with Lifemiles bookings and Checkmytrip?

All mine are listed by booking date rather than travel date, and all the online bookings are showing as originating in San Salvador, while all the screenshot bookings have the origin correct, but Bogota as the destination.

Gday

Yes. This isnt new though. For a good few months i have had trips with San Salvador as the origin and the booking date as the travel date. Not sure it is exclusive to lifemiles either. I have a Krisflyer booking in there which i changed last weekend and it has last weekends date as the travel date.

Pele.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

It's no secret, been discussed and posted on various forums in length.

Good for you. As I said, those particular ones are news to me. I currently have six J-F bookings from Europe to Asia, and all of them priced at F.

Likewise, I think it was January that I first noticed.

Elsewhere I have flights booked through QF, FI, SK, and SQ, all of which show as one would expect. So it's quite a mess.

That's what's good about AFF, you learn something new every day :)

Now, if your bookings are flexible I suggest you look at LH T-14 ;)

For those of you who found this condescension equally tiresome, here are some routes to rule out:

I think I posted about this quite a while ago. At the time I was searching for flights to Europe for a mate. I had convinced him to go with Lifemiles quite a while ago so there was no way I was going to book flights for him in part J where he had to pay F or pay J and fly part of the way in Y. I ended up finding some flights that were all J but there certainly were a lot of mixed ones pop up. I feel your pain

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Lifemiles.com is down for maintenance again. Wonder what enhancements we will get this time.

From what i can see the Bus and First class flights now seem to be charging the same price

When you go in to see the first class flights it doesn't return a single one they are all business class charging at first class price. I did this for a few searches and got the same results, no first class seats

Condescension? I'm sorry, that was not my intention.

When I said you learn something new here every day it was generalisation. You, me, everyone here... The beauty about being part of a large frequent flyer community.

Lighten up a bit, so you couldn't price your desired J/F routes as J, it happens. Those glitches are not always available exactly when we need them.

Better luck next time.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

This has been interesting....

Had 2 seats booked on the UA AKL-SFO flight. End off July. With that flight suspended form April to October it seemed to me that cancellation and miles refund would be very simple. Not so.

Emailed the "support" address pointing out the flight was no longer operating that date and that I was happy to just cancel.

Reply asked for evidence of the suspension...which threw me...until I realised that the lifemiles folks may well have zero connection to the actual airline....

Sent them a screenshot of the United announcement...which they say they are forwarding to the refunds people.... Sheesh.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

would certainly cut down on the amount of miles us aussies buy, but not sure if we'd be large enough market to worry them??

We're big enough for them to increase the pricing just for us in the recent update. I daresay that market share would still be sizeable enough.

Down for maintenance again...

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Any ideas when a miles promo might appear again? I need to get two family members one way from Europe to Sydney in October and one-way fullfare is expensive.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

What do you guys think my chances will be of finding 3 J return tickets from Melbourne to South Europe (preferably Athens but Istanbul / Paris / Frankfurt / Rome etc should be okay) departing late next month and returning a few months later will be? I've been checking from time to time and it's very difficult to find flights on LM (a lot harder than what I recall it was).

TG is probably going to be your best option, at least as far as bangkok. From there you could pick up something like TK or any number of other carriers. TG only releases two seats at a time until a pre-determined limit is reached. That can be as many as eight seats per flight. Usually as soon as you book two another two will show, and so on. If the initial allocation has been exhausted TG often releases inventory close-in... tomorrow's SYD-BKK is a good example... it even has F available at short notice.

Once you are all in bangkok you might need to split the party - say two seats on Turkish and another on Austrian or Lufthansa (etc).

To get to Europe try TG the whole way, if not, try individual sectors and then the screenshot method. Use UA's booking tool to find availability, then recreate sector-by-sector on LM, screen-shotting what you need to.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

You will most likely have to use screen shots. I can see 2 x J MEL-BKK most days around the end of August but not 3. Also there appears to be reasonable availability for 3 x J BKK x IST - ATH or BKK x CAI - ATH or mixed Y BKK - HKT the J HKT x IST - ATH around the same time. I haven't checked the return but expect you would be able to find similar.

You may even be able to be a bit creative as most days have availability on both MEL-BKK flights, so you could grab 2 seats on one and 1 on the other.
