re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

I got 125% offer and no minimum purchase required.

"You´ll get double miles from what you purchased and an additional 25% miles bonus! Valid from July 11th through July 14th, 2017."

Seems to be a targeted offer. I haven't gotten an email yet and just logged on and can't see any bonus :(

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Got 125% offer as well but no need to use LM for now. Will wait until around Black Friday unless there is an offer around 140-150%.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

1-50k, 2x1
51-100k, 2x1 + 15%
101-200k, 2x1 +25%

So everyone is not quite equal! :)

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

I purchased in the last offer but haven't got this one.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

What's the required number of points for a Johannesburg to Addis Ababa flight in Y and J and how would buying that amount set me back today?

Y 17,500
J 33,000

Y 8,000 + 10,000 (125% bonus) => $US264
J 15,000 + 18,750 (125% bonus) => $US495

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Ended up needing to cancel a UA flight booked with Lifemiles. As it turned out it was that UA flight AKL-SFO that more recently became seasonal. Emailed the support address and was then asked to provide evidence that the UA flight was suspended... lol.

Sent them a screen shot of the announcement from the UA website and within 48 hours got a reply saying miles/fees were being refunded. At that point it all happened very quickly.

No complaints here.

TG is probably going to be your best option, at least as far as bangkok. From there you could pick up something like TK or any number of other carriers. TG only releases two seats at a time until a pre-determined limit is reached. That can be as many as eight seats per flight. Usually as soon as you book two another two will show, and so on. If the initial allocation has been exhausted TG often releases inventory close-in... tomorrow's SYD-BKK is a good example... it even has F available at short notice.

Once you are all in bangkok you might need to split the party - say two seats on Turkish and another on Austrian or Lufthansa (etc).

To get to Europe try TG the whole way, if not, try individual sectors and then the screenshot method. Use UA's booking tool to find availability, then recreate sector-by-sector on LM, screen-shotting what you need to.

Been playing around the last few days and it's very difficult finding 3 J flights to Bangkok or Singapore let alone Europe (Athens, Istanbul, Rome, Paris or Frankfurt).

I am hoping closer to the end of August more seats are released, as it stands I can't get 3 J to any location whatsoever.

At least though I understand how the screenshot method works and it seems LM allow up to 24 hour stop overs (?) so that's a positive I guess.

While it depends on the airline, it is unlikely they will release bulk seats as additional availability. If TG is not showing anything now it means they have exhausted their allocation... however... with TG they only release two seats at a time... so you won't actually know if there are three or not at this stage... you'll book the first two, and wait for the next two to come up so you can book one of those.

It it is a bit of a gamble... however if there is an alternative... for example two seats on one flight and a third on another (ie splitting your party) you could always do that, and if TG doesn't release more seats you have a good back-up. Just make sure you split the party properly so there are no children flying alone etc.

LM *may* allow up to 24 hours tranist. It's not guaranteed. And you can't argue that someone else got it. The system only allows 8 hour transits... someone doing a screenshot may choose to follow the 8 hour rule. However reports are that up to 24 hours is now more common, so you should be ok.

I guess SG may be the best option then? If they release more than 3 seats at a time? I think they do because I found 3 J to IST which I regret not taking.

I did find 3 J to Athens (going through BKK) last year, so I guess TG may occasionally release 3 seats?

Problem is the flight cannot be split because 2 are elderly and they need accompanying.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Based on your replies, you definitely need all three on the same flight. Book the two elderly in business using miles and the third (I assume you?) book in economy using either miles or paid ticket.
It seems that keeping all three on the same flight is more important than using LifeMiles, so I suggest you reconsider your priorities and decide accordingly.

Worst case scenario, yes, but there's still a month to go so there's hope!

I have noticed that there are some flights with 2 J available with TG, as Mel_Traveller noted, is there a way at all to determine whether or not after 2 tickets are booked further flights will appear? Does it generally happen straight away?

Does anyone know if it is possible to cancel the return (only) portion of a return award ticket after the outbound leg has been flown? I called LM and they said I could not cancel the return fight and could only change the return flight if it was the same airline. Unfortunately to make the change I would like I would need to fly a different airline.
