re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

I have the USDM and AA charts on my office wall and roughly know how to the points caluclation to get $cost (more so USDM than AA) but i think the one or two times i have looked at the LM chart i have just given up after a bit, seems very un-user friendly to me...

I think it is really worth checking the slider/points & pay equation when you are looking at doing a redemption. Our 1st booking made in Sept 2012 (TG F to Europe in May 2013) we were better off using more cash. In a booking made in March 2013 ( on SQ J to India in Nov 2013) we were better off using more points-not sure if there is an explanation or just that it can vary all the time. Certainly for the India redemption the $$ rate per 1,000 points change was variable as the number of points was changed

It's variable but I'm pretty sure the cost of buying points during the points & pay redemption is always lowest when you use the minimum number of points (40%) to begin with.

First timer here and trying to learn my way around the LM website.

Trying to book one way award ticket in J PER-(SIN)-SFO. Website responds nothing available. If I search each segment individually, J space displays as available on both segments. Don't want to book each segment separately since it wil require 110,000 miles vs. 67,500 according to the Aus/North America chart.

Does LM consider SIN a stopover even though in this case the connecting time is only 5 hours?

Any workaround?

Anxiously awaiting our virgin visit to the Down Under next February :D

Isn't SQ SIN-SFO an A380 service meaning J is unavailable?!? or is it UA?

I think his SIN - SFO sectors are on OZ.

I would say very slim chance of getting life miles to ticket this as a single award - of all the posts I've read on the forums I've only ever seen one hand picked award.

Trying to book one way award ticket in J PER-(SIN)-SFO. Website responds nothing available.

I had a quick look and had no problem getting PER-xSIN-xICN-SFO for 18 June as an example. All flights with SQ.

Uh huh....they're showing all kinds of interesting long haul SQ!

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Ok, so i am thinking i might book a flight from KIX down to PER for later this year, looking at the LM website, flying economy, it looks like one way is 35,000 miles, i change the slider to max cash (so $267.96) with tax of $52.48 and redemption fee of $25.00 for $345.44 total and still needing 14,000 miles.... With the current 2-1 offer i put in 7,000 miles and it comes up with a cost of $210, if i click through with my cc details is that the price i will be charged, there isn't any extra tax or charge added?

And so $555.44 cents for a redemption using SQ and when i go to their website and try to book one way flights it comes A$967 approximately... I think the LM redemption in J might have been about $800??

Given the value you would be receiving by booking SQ SIN-ICN-SFO for that price/many points and how close SIN is to PER, I would be booking the SIN-ICN-SFO leg through LMs and then just buying a separate Y ticket PER-SIN for a day-time flight.

It's $4,500 to buy SIN-ICN-SFO J pp on sq.com.

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Seeing a lot of J awards here booked by people. Is it because of the only one class per ticket rule that people are sticking to J (for longer trips) or is it because F is much harder to book on LM?

I'm thinking of the old BD DC days... except it's formulaic to calculate the miles and cash required (i.e. USD 12.75 per 1k miles required in cash+miles for make-up).

Also, I'm having a lot of trouble finding the stopover rules for LM (if there are any)....

there are no stopover rules for lifemiles because stopovers aren't allowed for the through fare (have to price separately).

given F is primarily only available from Sydney (maybe air china from Melbourne now as well?) I guess most people don't want to pay for two awards to split it into first and business. or maybe don't want to pay for the connector flights in say eruope to get to their final destination?

Trying to get from PER - Western Europe on SQ for late June. Cant seem to find any flights. :(

re: Avianca "Life Miles" - New FF program in *A

Thanks for all the replies. I still could never get PER-SIN-SFO to display, but wound up just booking SIN-SFO separately. Will buy a separate ticket PER-SIN enabling us to spend some time in SIN as opposed to merely connecting. SQ inventory on the LM website seems to come and go at a moment's notice, so I thought I'd better grab it while it was there.

I have wrestled with the LM website for the past 48 hours and their call center because I can never get anywhere from PER (or SYD) to SFO or LAX to appear in a single display, despite the fact all the flights involved have space in J. Gizzard, I was able to get a display PER-SFO in June as you mentioned. But for Feb 2014, such is not the case.

Should my next step be to contact LM support staff to request this be ticketed ASAP so that SQ doesn't cancel my space for lack of ticketing?

Have you tried putting SQ only? I tried with the previous details before. and it did show up from PER

Yes, I tried both SQ and *A in my searches.

Sorry, can i just confirm this is the way of working out LM redemption costs, no other taxes or points buying charges?

if you have selected your award, then on the second screen it has added any additional miles top up, taxes, and the $25 fee then you are good to go.

There are Y class flights available, eg PER-CPH 25 June.

This is what I would be focusing on rather than getting the trip of a lifetime for hardly any points.....
