saying that because there are only angled lie flats they avoid the midnight flight.

hopefully this will change when they start to reconfigure their old planes... MEL should hopefully be near the top of the list given no F class.

I understand now, thought he was indicating the daytime flight had a superior seat at first.

There is nothing happening in the immediate future in regards to reconfiguring the existing 777 fleet. There was rumour of an A380 to MEL as there was 1 spare frame, but I believe that has been canned now too.

LM is much cheaper than USDM to South Asia.

How much cheaper?? I only look at LM threads spasmodically and so can never remember the comparisons...

USDM is about AUD1772 including all fees (assuming $100 tax on the ticket) compared to about AUD1388 on LM (I just did the comparison this morning for someone)

correct - points plus pay and assuming purchase of base miles during 100% promo for both USDM and LM. (my pricing this morning was for an AU-SIN-AU return)

Thought so, love the fact you can get J ex BNE to Asia by just having 19500 miles in the account, so no need to wait for promos although they are a handy top up every second month.

Hmmm, value still is in the longer redemptions eh... From Perth to Singpore is only 5 hours and $1300 is getting up there in price...

And 5 hours in Y isn't *that* bad. I've been looking at MEL-PER-HKT VA Y for around $500ish but could actually be tempted with MEL-BKK-HKT TG J for only a couple hundred more.

If only I didn't have a wedding this year!

i guess it all depends... my friends were looking at going when the economy fares to SIN are usually around $1200 and flights are packed to the rafters... so and extra couple hundred for business they thought was a steal.

And 5 hours in Y isn't *that* bad.

haha... no it's not... depending how you do it ... just a few days ago I gave up my seat in tg business for a six hour flight and swapped it for three in economy so I could actually get some sleep!

I had MEL-SIN-DPS / DPS-SIN-MEL booked in SQ J with LifeMiles and cancelled it in favour of VA Y MEL-ADL-DPS (Day flights) / DPS - MEL (Night flight).

Totally OK with it on the way over...totally regretted it on the way back!

When I fly Y medium/long-haul it never seems that bad to me however when I fly J/F I peak into the Y cabin and it looks like a zoo... and promptly close the curtain.

...well we sat in row 3 so as long as I didn't look back...!

Row 3 was probably not a good idea on the way back...fixed armrests. A lot of other pax had 3 seats to themselves and an impromptu flat bed! The incredibly irritating woman in 3F did decide to sleep on the floor but was promptly told that wasn't allowed...*snigger*!

Asia flights are 90K (a few 100K) on LM and 90K on USDM (with the value of LM points much cheaper if you use the points + cash option) but clearly Asia is a big place and some of the farlying destinations provide the best value.

It's been 105k (North Asia) or 95k (South & Central) for a long while now.

Thought the numbers were off, main point was the fact North Asia is dearer, which includes HKG.

Yes, sorry I had an old version of the chart and can't easily find the new one. LM is still cheaper than USDM. And my other point, that Central Asia is one of the points of exceptional value, certainly remains.

Where do I find a list of which countries/cities are in which zones?

As an example how many points/miles is it to get from Australia to Europe or Australia to North America in business class?

Multiply the number by 0.4 to get the points & pay price.
