Back to the Big Apple with a few stops along the way

Chihuly in Seattle is definitely on my bucket list
I am not a big fan of glassed blowing and understand it is an art, it is just not something I have ever been into or interested in. Chihuly's work and artistic talent takes it to a whole new level. The sun was out this morning and I am thinking that the placement of the dark glass spheres in the garden was deliberate just to get the space needle caught, aligning or interacting with other colours in the spheres.

I first saw it in Kew gardens in London and was fascinated how he complemented the plants

The reason I say I would not stay in this location is although the buildings are nice to get to the station light rail (T1 downtown-SEA) you may run into a few unsavoury characters and within a couple of blocks of this otherwise nice old looking location you come across this. Drugs and blowing crack was clearly of no concern and out in the open.

I am assuming the area will be shortly cleaned up or at least an attempt will be made given this sign on the other side of the road.

The walk continued to what is the biggest Starbucks I have ever seen.

I noticed there was a restaurant and if this was the only way in, so be it. It was a bit over priced however the food tasted good and apparently owned/ managed by a chef called Renee Erickson from Seattle who is considered to be a big deal.IMG_5165.jpegIMG_5167.jpegIMG_5166.jpegIMG_5169.jpegIMG_5172.jpegIMG_5177.jpegIMG_5181.jpegIMG_5183.jpegIMG_5185.jpeg

So this morning we headed off to Bainbridge Island.
IMG_5189.jpegIMG_5195.jpeg
I think that is Mount Rainier in the background, but not sure.

This boat seemed to want to race across in front of the ferry and the Ferry Captain was not having a bar of the behaviour and was blasting the horn until the smaller vessel turned away.

I knew there was not much on Bainbridge Island and the main reason for going was just for the ferry ride. Winslow (downtown) is quaint and seems to be geared for the tourists ,the farmers markets were on today and it was a god place to while away a couple of hours.

When we got back to the mainland we went our seperate ways. MissM is still not feeling well but is getting better I suspect that she is suffering jet lag, when booking I was worried how the girls would cope with a late afternoon 4pm (local) ADL-xMEL-xSIN-SEA arriving 8:30am (local) the following day. So Mrs&MissM went back to the hotel I went elsewhere - the international district

Over the back screen was another camp
IMG_5252.jpegIMG_5253.jpeg
Then back down through Korea and China Town

I suspect that when trip reports are posted most just post the good stuff, I do, but at times there is just the reality of travel. We are starting at zero dark hundred tomorrow so no going out for dinner tonight. MrsM found some Vietnamese place that has great reviews from locals and backed up on the internet. It was 3-4 blocks from the hotel so it was operation dinner out, code for take out in the hotel room, I have no shame or embarrassment bringing external food to a hotel room if it is better than what is on offer on premises.

But did it taste good. I find in the USA you can't rely on the locals reviews of particularly Asian cuisine. They have their own versions of what is considered authentic.
This one was quite good and some of the locals were known to us, I understand your comment re "I find in the USA you can't rely on the locals reviews of particularly Asian cuisine. They have their own versions of what is considered authentic." it is why I chose to use the word "reasonable" when it came to describing the Japanese meal up thread.

Dining excellence !

love the photos

that Hennessy Paradis is Paradise

it retails in Oz for a fraction over $1550..... and on my last trip Sept 2019, on the way over on points I drank 0 (but smashed out the Dom 2008 vintage) and on the paid trip back (two legs) I drank 6 rather generous pours - gave a whole new meaning to “drinking your airfare”..... rough calculation Seeing it’s a 700ml bottle at least half the bottle ! Lol. That clawed back about 20% of the fare. Could explain why I was most seedy when I arrived in Melbs....lucky the chauffeur was in good spirits too ...

Sometimes EK have Hennessy Paradis imperial which retails for something like $3500. :)

Great report so far. I was in Seattle in 2018 so on one hand it's familiar, but the other I went in mid-January so there wasn't even a hint of blue sky.

I was intrigued to see that the Gum Wall somehow survived COVID and that you got to go up the Space Needle (I couldn't because of high winds at the time meaning it was closed).
