Bankwest Qantas MasterCard - Platinum. Earn 50,000 Qantas points. $160 annual fee

Once my 50K pts post, I will follow in master cove's footsteps :)

...and the 50K have now posted to my BW account and should be swept across to my QF account next month...at which time BW will be getting a phone call :)

Of course it may be possible to get these cards for a lower price but we don't choose to negotiate too hard on this. Instead we just put lots of expenses on our best CCs. No need to draw special attention to our very active accounts in that relentless pursuit of frequent flyer points. Mastercove has just been approved for Platinum,Mrscove has World and I am a work in progress where I am getting to World.
Mrscove is laughing as she used her private banker to get her card quite a while ago and has left me a mile and a bit behind.
She was always quite miffed that Citi gave me a credit limit about $40,000 more than her despite having the same financials.
It will be quite the opposite with Bankwest World.

Bankwest 50,000 bonus points now in my QFF account.

Now to cancel my account and get a refund of my annual fee.

My 50K posted but I'm keeping this card for Fx purchases....no Fx fees and 0.5QF pts per $ spent

Can you let us know how you go, I was going to do similar but concerned they would then take the points back somehow ?

Will provide updates.

Basis of my claim will be that they failed to provide notice of the extended delay in issuing standard QFF points (I laid the ground work for this as discussed earlier in this thread) plus the introduction of the fee for the issue of a statement - which I think is unreasonable given the large annual fee already being charged.

There is no way that they can get the 50,000 points back from your QFF account.

I cancelled my account immediately after receiving the 50,000 bonus points. Asked for a pro rata refund given how unhappy I was with how long it took to post the ordinary points and the introduction of the fee for a statement. Got now where. Account now cancelled though so I can sit out ay exclusion periods.

Did you call them or write to them Betty?
How persuasive were you?
What was their attitude?

I contacted them via Bankwest message. Set out the facts clearly. Got a fairly standard response within 24 hrs. They claim that they had'escalated' my request for a refund but that it was denied. Not sure whether to pursue it further or not.

How did you get on DrRalph?

Dear Sir/Madam,

I write with reference to my Bankwest Qantas Platinum MasterCard, the problems I have encountered since opening this account and to direct you to cancel my account immediately.

I make reference to the online Bankwest messages sent to you on 20/10/2016, 22/10/16, 24/10/17, 26/10/16 and 27/10/16 and state the following:

1) As I have already established via Bankwest message, Bankwest failed to adequately advise me of the extended delay that would be encountered in the posting of accrued Qantas Frequent Flyer points at the time of opening my account. This delay was unacceptable.

2) As I have already established via Bankwest message, Bankwest failed to posted the accrued Qantas Frequent Flyer points within the stated time in the terms of the agreement provided to me. This delay was unacceptable and a breach of a condition of the agreement.

3) I object to the introduction of an additional fee for the issuing of a paper based statement. Such a charge is inappropriate and unfair based on the fact that I have already been charged a $160 account fee and there was no notice provided of your intention to introduce such a fee when I opened my account.

4) You will note that I have not used my Bankwest Qantas Platinum MasterCard since I notified you of my concerns.

On the basis of the above I would request that Bankwest provide a refund of the $160 annual fee that I have already paid. As my account is now closed, such a refund should be made to my Commonwealth Bank savings account. BSB xx_xx_. A/C xx_xx_.

Yours sincerely,

DrRalph'

So that's two 'forceful' letters that you've now sent to banks so far this month – HSBC and now Bankwest. Interested to hear how you get on. Does this type of approach usually pay dividends?

'Type of approach ' – You mean when I point out what they have done wrong (including breaches of contract) and state clearly that I'm not happy?

Yes, frequently.

Hi,

The sign up bonus of 50k points, is it only for Qantas World Mastercard ? It doesn't say anything about the Platinum in the T&C
I'm a bit confused with the thread title, that's why :)

It was for the Plat card for a while but that offer has now expired. The bonus now is only for the World card.

UPDATE:

Account cancelled.

Took a call today from Bankwest. They acknowledged their mistakes. Offered a pro rata refund of around $120. This will be deposited to my Commonwealth Bank savings account.

Disappointed that they didn't put up much of a fight.

I don't win them all, but Bankwest was an easy target given they failed to meet dates specified in their offer.

At $40 for 50,000 points it was a no brainer.
