they fed me a line that it takes 3 months to connect qff accounts to bankwest, therefore I'll expect my earned points and 50,000 bonus next month. When I said that I already had an Bankwest Qantas transaction account, they replied that it didn't matter
I have to say, on a scale of ridiculous explanations that answer would surely be somewhere in the top percentile.

I too am on the 3rd month and haven't had a single point sweep across to my qf account. I called them on Friday and they fed me a line that it takes 3 months to connect qff accounts to bankwest, therefore I'll expect my earned points and 50,000 bonus next month. When I said that I already had an Bankwest Qantas transaction account, they replied that it didn't matter. Have you received any points yet Dr?

I've saved some money on internet foreign purchases so I'll keep this card until the 11th month when I bid arrivederci.

Not received any points at all yet.

They'll be getting the hurry up from me if its not posted in the next week.

Same here. I've had 2 statements but no points at all. I believe all the BW cards are administered by CBA, so the disconnect with the transaction account and credit cards is plausible.

It's on my list of things to chase up next week.

From memory I had to put the pressure on them last time around to get the points as they failed to post within the stated time period.

No points at all received after 2 months. Just not good enough.

I've sent an email today asking why no points have been credit. I suggest others do the same.

It will help to build a case for a partial refund of the annual fee when I cancel after the 50,000 bonus points are credited.

I share your frustration Dr Ralph. I'll follow suit.

I assume the rationale will be you're leaving because of the delayed sweep of points? How will you respond when BW says you've got the points now? Just trying to get a sense about the prospects of success.

Yes, I'm building an argument that I'm being treated differently by BankWest as compared to other banks. No one else makes you wait 3 months to get the accrued points. I understand about the bonus, but at no stage did they mention in the terms of the agreement that I would have to wait 3 months to get any points.

It will be irrelevant that they delivered points after 3 months. They should have delivered them after the first statement.

I don't know what it was at the time you applied, but the current offer says (emphasis in bold):
From what I gather about all the sign on bonus offers from different banks, they usually indicate a maximum time when the bonus is credited.
The big four banks certainly do.

[SUP]1[/SUP] The 50,000 bonus Qantas Points promotion is only available for new Bankwest Qantas MasterCard customers who apply for a Bankwest Qantas Platinum MasterCard credit card between 01 August and 30 November 2016, are approved and spend at least $2,500 on eligible purchases within 3 months from account opening. Bonus points are subject to change. Bonus Qantas Points will be transferred to your account within four months of account opening. This promotion does not apply to existing Bankwest credit card customers who upgrade or vary their existing credit card. Also not available to Complete Home Loan Package customers. Bonus points will contribute to the annual points cap. The total Qantas Points (including any bonus points) that can be earned each year using the Bankwest Qantas Platinum MasterCard is 200,000.

Kangol, it's not bonus points that has Dr Ralph's (and my) goat. It's the delayed sweep of points earned from expenditure that's galling. There is no reason that I can see why it should take four months.

Whoops

Received this from Bankwest:

'Hi DrRalph,

Thank you for your email.

DrRalph, Qantas points are transferred from BankWest to Qantas on the 5th
of every month, after the account has been opened for 2 months and once
you have spent atleast $1,500 on eligible purchases. I can see both of
these requirements have been met, so the first allocation of points will
be transferred on November 5th, to Qantas, who will then apply the
points to your membership within 21 days.

Bonus Qantas Points will be transferred to your account within four
months of account opening, as long as you've spent at least $2,500 on
eligible purchases within 3 months from account opening.

I hope that I have been able to assist with your enquiry today. If you
would like any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us
again via this email service or on our contact details below.'

And sent the following reply:

'Thank you for your reply to my enquiry. I note that at no stage during the application process did Bankwest make me aware of the extensive delay in awarding the accrued reward points. You would be aware that the approach taken by Bankwest does not represent industry standard. Based on the information provided by you the accrued points would take a minimum of 87 days and a maximum of 108 days to reach my Qantas account (given my purchase on August 10). This extended delay is unacceptable.

I find it remarkable that other financial institutions have the ability to credit points from the first month of opening a new account and within a few days of the end of the first month. Why is it that Bankwest has chosen to deliberately delay the awarding of points to inconvenience customers?'

Am doing same right now.

No one else makes you wait this much time for points already earned.

Section 6.2

Qantas Points will not be transferred until:

•You have spent an initial $1,500 on Eligible Purchases
using your Card; and

•You have been an Account Holder for at least 60
days (unless you have converted an existing Bankwest
credit card account to a Card Account in which case it
must be at least 60 days since your existing credit
account was opened).

Not only is this inconsistent with the information sent to me by Bankwest, this wont be relevant if you have a look at the way the ACL operates. Given the harshness of the term it has to be specifically brought to the customers attention. Including this in a pdf accessed via an online link isn't adequate and in normal circumstances would be provided in the mail AFTER your contract is formed. This is too late for the term to be valid.

LOL. LOL. LOL. This is why I love AFF, The number of people that can't be bothered reading the Terms and Conditions, then state that something they don't like is against the ACL (is that even th right legislation for a financial product?) Having considered this card, one doesn;t even need to go the Terms and Conditions to find that. It's on the product page. Anyway, I am sure you would have accepted the terms and conditions in the process of signing up somewhere.

I didn't post it the terms and conditions to get into an argument about them. Just to say what they are. i would have thought that they would have been included in the reams of documentation that come with opening bank accounts these days....

I think my Bankwest Platinum CC is in its third season of hitting the cap so it is gathering dust until next year. It now pays 0.5 QF points per dollar spend which is down from the previous 0.75 points per dollar. The 200,000 cap is my only issue and my points are transferred monthly.

Received a fairly standard response from BW telling me that how they allocate points is set out in their terms. My reply indicated that these terms were provided AFTER the contract was formed. Still building a case for a refund of the fee after the bonus points post and will use these emails as part of my case that they mislead me about when points would post and have acted unreasonably.

Following with interest. I like test cases.

Thanks for the update DrRalph.

I got a similar reponse which directed me to a PDF with the information about when points would post. I haven't replied yet.

What do you mean by acted unreasonably?
