Bankwest Qantas MasterCard - Platinum. Earn 50,000 Qantas points. $160 annual fee

In my case I'm existing BW customer with a PAN, so I guess no need to ID. The application was conditionally approved online.

Same here but there's one right next to my office so I thought it wouldn't hurt to go in anyway in case it hurried it along.

I got the run around. Tried applying online but all it gave me was a credit limit of $5000 pushing me to the lower-level card. I suspended the application and immediately got on the blower, where I received a manual application from a bloke in North Ryde!?!? That went through fine and I received the card the same week. Hit $2,500 last month and now I'm just chilling. Am off an 12-month overseas assignment in 2017 so the no forex fees will come in handy. Until then, it's in the freezer.

Second statement received after reaching required spend. No points yet. I wont be using the card ever again given the low point earn rate.

I'm going to keep using mine where I would've otherwise used my BW Zero Platinum MC, then close it just before the annual fee is due again.

I figure that 0.5ppd is better than nothing at all.

I agree. I was going to cancel when they reduced the earn rate, but it is still very useful to me, so I will keep the account for a while. In fact, I'm in the process of transferring to the World even though the earn is still not great on that card either (they're giving me a fee waiver for the first year which sweetens the deal)

I'll likely keep it so long as it still pays me on payments to Canberra, but it is also great for overseas payments - exchange rate within <1% of the spot rate, with no currency conversion fee. I don't know of any other card that offers those things and some points as well.

just applied online and got conditionally approved for $6k limit..need to go to the bank for ID checks :-)
wondering what do you guys spend on $2.5k ?? especially for those who applied few cards to get the bonus points...

My land rates were about $2300.

Over $3000 for mine. That's the only charge I have spent on this card. Given the low earn rate I refuse to give them anything more. Waiting on the points to post and then this card will be cancelled.

I'm on my 10th card for the year.

It's not hard to spend the required $1500 to $3000 for each card.

Try a mix of house insurance, contents insurance, greenslip, car insurance. There's over $3000 just in that lot.

There's always the gift cards from Woolies and Coles as well - I've spent over $10,000 on those so far this year, especially when they were 10% off.

Health insurance?

Pre pay your utility bills?

It's really not hard to find $2500 if you are serious about participating in credit card sign up bonuses.

In this case, I revert to paying my relos tax etc. As long as they pay you back. Can you prepay anything? I prepaid my rates once and am still getting it 'free'.

dont have relos here :-) im renting.. so no rates....

Someone mentioned somewhere the idea of booking a distant cruise that is refundable. If you are in a position to do so, you could do this, and then (if you are keeping the card) in a few months when you have passed the spend threshold on real expenses cancel the cruise - this would give you a credit on your CC (may not be something you want)

I guess you could try to have the refund go into a savings account as was suggested (a bit too far for me though)

This just isn't true. EG: Woolworths gift cards are 5% off at cash rewards.

But in any case why should it matter whether they are 'on promotion' or not. Your goal is to spend the $2500 within 3 months. You lose nothing by buying the gift cards now and have 12 months in which to spend them. This way you spend the $2500 now and get the reward points. Again, you lose nothing.

But, if you can't see the value in it and don't have the $2500 to spend, credit card sign up bonuses may not be for you.

3rd statement received.

No points yet.

I'll give it another week and then I'll apply the pressure to BankWest.

I'm keen to cancel as soon as possible given the number of other offerings currently available.

I too am on the 3rd month and haven't had a single point sweep across to my qf account. I called them on Friday and they fed me a line that it takes 3 months to connect qff accounts to bankwest, therefore I'll expect my earned points and 50,000 bonus next month. When I said that I already had an Bankwest Qantas transaction account, they replied that it didn't matter. Have you received any points yet Dr?

I've saved some money on internet foreign purchases so I'll keep this card until the 11th month when I bid arrivederci.
