Bankwest Transaction account - Earn 10,000 bonus Qantas Points

How do we all have the same statement date?? My 10k arrived too! Will now find a different card for my coffees
Bankwest seem to do a monthly sweep around this time of the month for all cards and credit cards.

@bdl, Mrs Excel's didn't come either, though I think she met the criteria. Will check out the statements etc to try to find out why, possibly follow up if they don't land in March (which would actually be better for Mrs Excel's points club year).

I think Bankwest just batch processes the QF points transfer for the same date. I got my monthly points transfered on the 6th of every month, and guessing they just flipped a switch to put the 10k bonus ones on for the same day (for those that were eligible).

After reviewing timing for mine, there is a possibility that with timeframes outlined in T&Cs mine *may* be similar. I'll report back to this thread once Bankwest gets back to me, hopefully that will help you with Mrs Excel's points too...

Heard back from Bankwest,

"I've reviewed your transaction activity, and can see that you
have made multiple small dollar value transactions to meet the
transaction number requirement.

I regret to advise that Bankwest considers this activity as an abuse of
your account, and as per the Bankwest Qantas Rewards Program Terms and
Conditions, points on transactions such as these will not be accrued.

Have a lovely day. Thanks for banking with us."

FYI they were transactions ranging from $0-5 (Primarily Afterpay auto deductions and McDonalds coffees and the like) so be warned! They did award the 'usual' QF points on them, Bankwest is just not crediting the bonus 10k.

Wow...that's not good. I did similar (split payments at Coles / Woolwoths ranging from $1 - 5) and the 10K points posted. I would point out the Ts and Cs did not specify a mininum amount for the transaction to be eligible. If no joy, referral to AFCA?

Honestly, I considered it - but got a lot going on in life at the moment and don't have the headspace to deal with them. Ended up just closing the account and won't avail myself of their services again in future. Ever.

As you said, T&Cs have no minimum transaction requirement so to say it's abuse is a bit rich. :) An "enhancement" is a more apt description. At least I got my ~93 points a month on them :P

Their terms also says that they will not award points if they "reasonably decide" that you are "behaving fraudulently".

Will that clause trump the argument that there is no minimum transaction amount? Who knows but is it worth the time and energy fighting it?

The purchases made on the last day of the statement period are now showing on my account but are dated the day after they were made. Looks like I'm going to have to argue with them to get my bonus points.
Well I have to take it back.

I made 2 purchases on the last day of my third statement period but as noted above they showed on my statement as "pending" and didn't post until the following statement. However, despite this, my 10,000 bonus points came through with the following month's statement. Didn't need to follow up at all. :)

So the lesson is "don't phone and draw attention to yourself". Better to wait patiently for a month or two before following up.

Never a good idea to ring a bank/airline/hotel regarding good point hacks as it can lead to the hack being closed down.

I didn't phone and also waited two months. Didn't consider it a hack as all transactions were within their stated T&Cs for the promo.

From the latest comments at Bankwest Qantas Transaction Account: Bonus 10,000 Qantas Pts (10 Purchases Every Month for First 3 Months), $6/M Fee @ Bankwest - looks like Bankwest is definitely trying to get out of paying the 10k...

I'd go to AFCA. I can't see how a completely subjective decision on behalf of a bank (with unclear terms for the customer) would be waved through...

I've closed my account already with BW to avoid any ongoing fees as I don't trust them anymore. Does AFCA tally complaints to institutions? Would be good to start a case against BW only if it pushes them to clarify T&Cs for others in the future.

Well then I think I'm buggered. I did split tx at Coles for all three months but have received points for them each month. I did Nov, Dec and Jan so am expecting the 10k at the end of Feb or early March.

Some of mine were low value tx at supermarkets of a couple dollars. But not splitting the same purchase multiple times on the same card.

Which is precisely what I did.

I'd also add that I thought I'd missed the cutoff for the first month but they confirmed over chat that for the QF promo is not calendar month but within a month of opening which meant that I was still eligible. I have the screen shot where they said "we can see your 10 transactions on the 5th so you're still eligible". So they had an opportunity to tell me then.

Dont know if anyone had the same issue, but i was told that the 3 months are date to date not calendar months (20th Oct to 20th Nov)

Did anyone else not get points because of this?

5. What restrictions apply to your Qantas Points? The following are not Eligible Purchases, and you will not earn Qantas Points or Bonus Qantas Points in respect of them:– cash advances;– Balance Transfers;– interest charges;– credit fees and charges;– bank fees and charges;– transactions we decide are disputed due to being fraudulent or which involve an abuse of your Card Account;– foreign exchange purchases;– travellers cheques;– all purchases for gaming or gambling transactions including gambling chip purchases and online gambling purchases;– BPAY payments; i.e bill payments and other payments made through the BPAY Electronic Payments Scheme;– Government charges (other than GST payable in connection with the purchase of goods and services on which you earn Qantas Points);– credit card protection insurance;– Business Related Expenses; and– any other transaction we reasonably determine from time to time should be excluded by us.

Basically BankWest has deemed that you "abused" your account by gaming the promotion by making multiple small transactions to meet the promotion criteria, and no doubt they are relying on that last phrase in the T&C to support their decision. Onus is on you to raise a case with AFCA (if you can be bothered).

My wife didn't. I didn't really know the account opening date of my and her accounts. By the time I'd sorted it out, she'd missed the first month. I just scrapped through by a day in the first month but finished the other months and the points came through accordingly.

When I enquired about all this, and confirmed that she wasn't eligible and I was still was, I was told that there were several QF promos going. Some were date to date and some by calendar month. I was told initially by one agent that the one being discussed in this thread was calendar month but confirmed by another that it was date to date. I screenshotted that chat.

I was told date to date and calendar months in different calls and chats. whilst my wife and daughters 10K points showed up. similar to jacques vert my transactions appear on statement date "description" as 31st of month and 2pm etc in the description, but only appearing as a tranasction date the 1st of the following month on the statement. they offered to raise a formal complaint for me given the advice I had been given about date to date and they woudl go back and listed to months old calls, they called me back to say as a measure of goodwill they were awarding me my 10K points.
