Bankwest Transaction account [General Discussion]

Anyone else having trouble with Telstra payments today?
8 cards all failing!

Oh cough, just tried 3 of the cards at Woolworths and they all failed.

Craiglm, any news?

Yes ETA_2015:

My family, me, wife, son & daughter all have two cards each (standard & platinum).
So 8 cards in total.
All living at the same address.
All cards stopped working at the same time.

I contacted Bankwest to find out why the cards had stopped working.
I was informed it was because I was using both the standard and platinum card.
I was told that I needed cancel one and the hold would be removed from the other card.

We all had to contact Bankwest and cancel the platinum card.
The 4 standard cards are now working again.

Were we randomly selected? I don't know.
Why us and not others? I don't know.
We have all had 2 cards each for a long time now.

I must say that I find Bankwest's ways of doing business to be very poor and random.
There was no warning. No phone call. No letter. Just the cards placed on hold.

Oh and there was no mention by Bankwest of micro payments (which have now resumed).

Cheers
Craig

I just did the calculations on how many points you could possibly be generating at the moment... well done!

I've barely touched my card since EA won't allow 0.1c payments - I miss those points on the 5th of the month.

+1 on this, I think its far more likely to be whatever you were doing before you stopped using the card that caused the problem.

I shared the same thoughts as you, but the 3 accounts that were cancelled were 3 of 6. The only difference between the cancelled and still functioning accounts (at the same addresses, with $2K auto transfers between all 6 each month) was the cancelled accounts had no activity last month, whereas the other accounts had transactions each day (although limited by a telcos daily payment restrictions). That's why I suggest to not leave accounts inactive, it must trigger a review in their system. Or at the very least it did in my case

Just quickly anyone know if the Bankwest Platinum card offer fee free overseas purchase? I only saw that it offers overseas purchase protection but that's about it.

Just seen BW is having some technical issues. Not at home yet but dare say it might be worth trying to see if you can push through more than 50 trx per card... If you can, probably don't go crazy though...

Were you randomly selected? I'd suggest not, the fact we don't know the reason why doesn't mean there is no reason.

Looking for people who have two cards is frankly an easy option if you are looking to cut out the more extreme activity on this product. In my view this is the plan for BW here, they aren't going to stop the product but I think they will be looking to get rid of the more extreme users who they would be clearly losing money on.

I was able to make an additional 4 transactions per card before getting the same error as I usually get after making the daily 50 per card. Will try again later and see what happens.

You can resume earning those points immediately mate if you're happy to use my Telstra account :-) (some would say $15 for 7500 points is a steal :-) )

... Were we randomly selected? I don't know.

Bizarre. I wonder if a retailer requested the holds.

I'm certain that was the issue with my hold. In my case it was one card out of four making payments to the water company. Lots of failed payments and then suddenly the card was reported as blocked.

Agree. I experienced the same, although it seems to have turned out better for me.

Just remember, it appears you can still obtain additional cards from a branch. Good luck.

have anyone here refeived the 10,000 points bonus in two lot of 5000 points after 3 month with deposit 2k and spent $500 . I have been doing that for Mar apr may and jun and still havent received my 5000 points bonus in my first statement for July . Not sure how long after 3 months they will post points

I just got home, after "I think" I paid our x50 limit of transactions...

After reading a comment earlier, I've again pressed play..

It's now 99% working as a normal payment :) (occasional error msg)

That's a possibility. All 8 cards where paying the one Telstra bill.

Even more bizarre. Telstra would be the last one I would think would do that. After all, it either hasn't realised (yet), or doesn't care, about all the 1¢ payments being made for the last couple of years.

Not suggesting it was your fault, but I hope you did something unusual. Because, if you didn't, I don't like the implications for the rest of us (BW cracking down on multiple cards and/or Telstra cracking down on 1¢ payments).

I gave it a thought, but then if you remember The Rick's Saga, those payments in excess of the 50 limit were only allowed as offline transactions and then required manual processing on bw side. I don't think the unnecessary attention is worth it.

I have deliberately stayed with Telstra on home phone and broadband purely for the purpose of using my BW cards. I suspect I am not alone.

Has anyone who's been given the cough by bankwest just tried opening anther account?

Yes I have. I opened a second account right at the onset of this whole thing and before it was explicitly disallowed on the sign up page. A couple of month ago a nosy teller at a local branch noticed I had two separate PANs. I told her to stop what I had asked her to do as I was in a rush... Of course she followed it up with the head office and I had a call from Perth a few days later. I was informed I was only allowed to have one account, and one of the 2 accounts had to be closed. Fortunately this all happened on the 2nd or 3rd of the month, so all points from previous month had already been posted to Qantas.

Edit: I must mention that even though closure of the second account was a bummer, the whole interaction was very civil and courteous. I think it helped by the fact that I was not making a fuss. I enjoyed the benefits as long as I did and when the time came I was happy to move on and not act childish.
