Bankwest Transaction account [General Discussion]

I wonder if people have made it to the list then there's probably no sense in now changing behaviour: that is, it would seem the decision has been made already.

BTW, did you have any money left sitting in your account at the time?
I still have got some savings at BW. What happens to that if the account finally disappears? Are the funds confiscated by the bank?

I had reduced my account to zero about 2 hours before they closed it.
Your funds will be fine. Take a look at section "23. Closing the Account" in the BW "Investment and Transaction Accounts T&Cs".

Having had my account closed yesterday, I received my final statement today and can confirm that no QF points have been earned.

This indicates to me that the process isn't automated. Otherwise there would be one day for all of us. Looks more like somebody is working through the accounts and sending out letters as they identify the troublemakers.

I haven't received the letter - yet. I might just cease my script for the time being. It may be that once the person doing the manual checking has finished their task, they will be reallocated to something else and in a month or so I could resume.

Interesting that the reason given above is that multiple small consecutive transactions were being made for things that would normally be paid in one go. Fair enough.

Craiglm WAS running 2 cards per account for a period of time. That's why he was shut down .

Don't think you've looked very hard! Bullet point 4 below in http://www.bankwest.com.au/library/pdf/PDS_20120629-163837.pdf.

When you will not earn Qantas Points and
when we may cancel your Qantas Points

You will not earn Qantas Points or Bonus Qantas Points in respect of an Eligible Purchase (and we may correct your Rewards Statement by deleting or reversing any Qantas Points invalidly awarded) if:
a monthly payment is more than 30 days overdue;
your Card has been reported lost or stolen and a lost or stolen status has been placed on your Card Account;
you have reached your Qantas Points Cap;
we cancel your Card or terminate your Card Account for any reason;
we reasonably decide that you or an Additional Cardholder are behaving fraudulently;
a transaction relates to the conduct of a business, the Card is used to make business-related purchases (including any purchases of a personal business nature) or we reasonably believe the Card is used to purchase goods or services for Business Related Expenses; or
you breach the conditions of your Card Account or these Terms and Conditions.

That's not really clear cut enough for them. "If we cancel your card or terminate your card account" doesn't state that they won't award points for any given period of time beforehand. I'm sure they could say "we are canceling your account from X date and you won't earn anything from this point onwards" however they haven't put a valid enough clause that allows them to bring that date forward. This product was always poorly thought out and had poor T&Cs so I'm not rea

The only problem is that document is for Credit Cards!

Here's the relevant statement from page 4 of 'Bankwest Qantas Rewards Program for the Bankwest Qantas Transaction Account' under '7. When you will not accrue Qantas Points and when we may cancel your points'. It's the last paragraph of 7.

If your Account is closed or access to it is cancelled, all Qantas Points accrued in the month of closure will be forfeited.

Does anyone think it's a coincidence that the closures are all occurring before the end of August?

Just spoke to BW again. Spoke last week also.

Both times was told yes, points will be transferred.

Yes, final statement will show all points earnt.

So let's all just settle down and wait and see what happens until September 5. :-)

2 letters here (myself + wife). Running 2 cards each per account. Easy come, easy go. It was fun while it lasted!

Was surprised to receive a cancellation letter for my wife's Standard account today. Haven't checked in on this thread for a while since everything was going smoothly.

Haven't got a letter regarding my Platinum account yet, so I'm still hopeful. I had my account for quite a while before I cottoned on to this scheme, and also have a few other BW products, including World Mastercard that I definitely want to hang onto.

My question is, has anyone had their Qantas Transaction Account cancelled who also has other active BW accounts?
Could it be that only people who have only the Qantas account and nothing else are the ones being targeted?

Mine was cancelled and I have a $300,000+ investment loan with BW.

Has anyone's accounts dropped off their internet banking yet at all? I read one person mention it a few pages back but that's it. My accounts remain available at this point but I'm currently overseas so have no way of knowing whether a cancellation letter has been sent to me.

Not yet.

If you at any point had two cards on the one account, I think you should assume that your account will be closed.

I absolutely assume mine will be closed. In fact I'd be shocked if they weren't give I have had 4 cards on my account for nearly 2 years with my wife also having 3 on hers.

Mine just disappeared.

Update: They have moved it to the closed account section. So I still have access to all of the statements.

Yes, final statement will show all points earnt.

Which points will be transferred? No points are earned during the month that the account is closed. I got a letter around 11 August, my closure date was 24 August. The account was closed on that date (yesterday) and I got a final statement today showing no points earned.

My statement I got this morning (account closed yesterday) only had transactions up until the day before. And a non zero closing balance. So I suggest there's still another to come, hopefully with points.

Mine showed transactions up to and including the date it was closed. Zero balance. No points.

I was told any points earnt before the account is closed, will credit in the next transfer.

I will have more of a case if it doesn't happen, as both staff said yes.

I believe you need to stay way under 50 to be safe

Nope. My family all had 1 card each all doing 50 a day. All cancelled.

Bankwest appears to be still sending out letters.

Dude - you had two cards - you were red-flagged.

You were NOT a "1 card per person" account - stop clogging up the thread with false data points.

People are only interested in hearing from folks that truly were "1 card" accounts to see if they got targeted.

Again - you may have only had 1 card at closure time - but you were a 2 card abuser and had already been flagged.
