Bankwest Transaction account [General Discussion]

They tried to tell me that I wasn't eligible. And then that I didn't complete the requirements. After I showed them that they had made an error the points were credited rather quickly.

All of this was done via the online chat feature

Thanks for the info.

Am I the first to 'fall', or has it already been realised, that the BW account holders are starting to get their 'Closure' notices ??

Got home on Friday night, to find the letters ( mine and partner's ), to state that our accounts will be closed on the 18th. December.

Seven days to transfer funds out, and cancel any 'direct debits' etc.

They quoted T&C Clause 23 ...

I'll be ringing them first thing Monday morning ( Perth time! )

So, apart from the 'I told you so' responses, what chance will we have, in getting them to 'back down' ??

Could you be a bit more expansive as to the contents of the letter?

Now I'm really sad ...

They also claimed, that no further QFF points will be credited to the accounts.

Yeah they say they can cancel anytime in the Ts&Cs.

9. Termination

Sucks to hear you are getting screwed. But you were on the extreme end. Let's hope they leave the rest of the 50 transactions a day 'smaller' fish alone...

Your sad? What did you actually expect? A lifetime supply of unlimited free points?

Well, actually ..... YES !!

( and they aren't "free". I earned them, via purchasing goods, according to the functionality of the card, and the merchant that 'approves' the transactions !! )

That's pretty fair and completely expected. You milked it, we all knew it would happen, and it's a game. You've been a move ahead for what, 3-4 months now?

Take the points, maybe open an account in a (consenting) relative's name and start again. Or, hang tight and wait for the next promo. There is always something out there and you've still managed to get one over the bank, which is the Aussie Dream I believe.

They do have the right to close the account... But do they have the right to stop points earning from the date of the letter?

Today is 'thousand 1 c transaction day' ....

( my card has proved to go over the 50 again this weekend )

They'll have fun, so will I ...

( but I'm still gunna run it past Fair Trading in NSW, as got 'nothing to lose' ... )

Bye ... off shopping. Back late tonight.

Better off with the financial ombudsman for banking related issues. However they are generally useless and set up to favour the financial institutions. Their interest in points related issues is limited.

That said, Bankwest are charged for dealing with the complaint via them so if you're trying to be painful then it's not a bad option . It'll first go to somebody higher at bankwest who often have authority to actually award you something.

Wonder what would stop you just opening another account...!

Remember, only deal with fair trading/ombudsman only after dealing with:

1) bank call centre
2) internal complaints section

So the first letter has been received - likely going for the biggest offenders first. Fat lady is well into the first song.

Others who were "playing the game" will be nervously looking at their mailboxes in the next week

I don't really know how their systems work but why would they go after the biggest offenders first rather than everyone at the same time? Surely they would know who all of us are and generate letters for everyone at the same time?

my wife actually received mail from them yesterday (only saw today) and my heart skipped a beat as we opened it today. Was an unrelated issue thankfully.
