Biz Class to France

Taxes sound about right. Points probably not far off as a partner award. Better off going for a one world award in J at 280 if that's the case, get in many more flights and a few stops too :)

I assume J means frist class, so first class is 280k points plus same tax to france?

unfrotuantely, I dont havce the time to stop over anywhere, its pretty much 10-12 days fly in fly out

thanks for your help so far,

Ive just had a look at the other thread, and im a bit confused,

whats the diff in my case of malay air return to france for $278k points + $1138 in taxes,

is it a different airline?

MH is a different airline, but the criteria for a one world award is not yet met until you use two non-QF carriers. It probably make things cheaper for you unless you had the time to go elsewhere. And so you have discovered why QFF is out of favour with many on this board.

oh i see, so its cheaper tax wise?? or cheaper points wise,

at this stage my priority is to sort this flight to france out,
and then id be happy to transfer or change programs, as I have no loyalty to qantas

this is ridiclut,

I tired to book the above flights, and it wa $278k points +$1138 in tax!

the last time I checked it was about $225k points plus 587 in tax,

am I doing this wrong?

Qantas has two sets of points tables.

If you fly Qantas, Emirates or American Airlines you use one table, and all other one world airlines are on the partner table.

The partner table will see you charged extra points. The 278k requirement for flying on a partner is indeed correct for MEL-Europe. Qantas/Emirates would be much lower, at 256K.

would tax be the same? I swear I checked a few ,months ago and it was 587 odd in taxes

ok im a bit confused and a newbie,

can someone please explain,

I just tried to quote, malay air melb to paris ,stopping at KUL is 294k points plus $1137 in taxes

however if I do a quote via online, melb hkg, syd, paris and return is 309k points plus $500 taxes

another quote via CX is 294k with $421 in taxes, for melb hkg, paris and paris, hkg, syd, melb return

but yet for economy its 122k in points melb to hkg to paris one way with 240 in tax,

sorry for the dumb questions, but it seems liek the option I choose is well over 122x2k points plus really high taxes,

plus for 280k on the one world thread, I can get far more destinations and at less points
i feel like im getting jibbed

Why are you changing the way I book reward flights?

We understand that it can sometimes be difficult for you to use Avios to book reward flights, so we are making some structural changes to the Executive Club programme which together will provide more reward seats across our entire network – many of which will require fewer Avios than today to book.

Will I need more Avios for a reward flight in future?
It depends on your chosen class of travel:

  • In economy, during our busier (peak) periods, the number of Avios you will need will be the same as today, while if you book during our quieter (off-peak) periods you will require on average 26% fewer Avios than you would need to make the same booking today.
  • In premium economy, during off-peak periods, you will require on average 14% fewer Avios than today – except on routes within zone 4 which will require an average 7% more Avios than today to book. During peak periods, you will require an average 33% more Avios to book.
  • In business, you will require an average 25% more Avios for travel during our off-peak periods and an average 50% more for travel during our peak periods.
  • In First, you will require an average 13% more Avios for travel during our off-peak periods and an average 33% more for travel during our peak periods.

Why are you increasing the Avios amounts for premium cabins?
We understand that it can be difficult to find reward seat availability in our premium cabins (World Traveller Plus, Club World and First), especially on our most popular routes. This is because reward seat availability is restricted and many Members are looking to book the same seats. Through making a series of changes to our programme we have been able to add a number of additional reward seats across our entire network including in our premium cabins.

wow so a 25% -50% increase in poitns required for avios, does this meanits now going to cost up to 450k points for a flight that was origianlly 294k

avois cost 100,000 points each way, in business class, for partner airlines Australia to Europe. so a round trip will be 200,000 points.

where are you getting all your quotes from? just from the qantas website?

those points requirements that I quoted initially were all from qantas,

the malay airways one I went on the BA website, logged in to avios section, found a flight that was suitable, then called qantas and asked how many points and tax

hope this helps

The Avios change would only impact you if you were redeeming Avios - you're not - you're redeeming QFF points.

The reason for using the BA site is that it searches more partner airlines than the QF site (e.g. Malaysian etc). The Avios and taxes on the site are irrelevant - it is just the availability you need to confirm before booking with QF on the phone.

MH has very high fuel surcharges and CX has very low (perhaps nil) fuel surcharges, so always expect to pay through the nose for "taxes" if you redeem points to fly on MH. I'm flying MEL-KUL-MAA return later this year on MH and the "taxes" are $908 which is more than a discount economy airfare. Unfortunately there was no availability on CX on the quite specific dates I needed to travel, but I check back every few days just in case.

time for more assistance ! pls help, im confused

im sorry for the dumb questions everyone, but its pretty much the first time iver ever called qantas, and the first time ive booked a long flight using QFF

I call up to make the booking , and I ask a few basic questions,
and the guy says "I can assure you all reward flights for BA and Malay air way will show up on the qantas award section"

I tell him that, in all my years ive never seen a BA or Malay airway flight show up, its usually Cathay, Qantas or jetstar
he replies, oh it must be a system error, ill let the tech guys know,

he says there are no flights avail to paris return on my dates, however I was logged into BAexec club site and had the particular flight showing as avaialble (its been avaialbe for almost a month)
and he says "oh yes I can see that one is avaialble, would you like me to book it?"

I ask, "are there any other airlines that might be avail" and he replies "not that I can see, however I have to enter each airline manually, do you know which airline you want to go on??"

ok, so how are we supposed to find avaialblity of a flight if it wont show up on the qantas website plus we have to specify which airline.

just ultra confused......

The BA flights do show up in the QF system. MH (Malaysia) and JL (JAL) are two of many that don't. Both these airlines show up in BAEC searches.

The entire reason I pointed you towards BAEC is so you can check availability yourself before calling QF, as sometimes the agents aren't very helpful. (And the agent you had is wrong, simple as that. Time to HUACA - hang up and call again)

If you've found a flight that works for you, and QF have confirmed that is available, why don't you book it?

as greenfish says... you can use something like BA exec club to find the availability. Once you have found flights, write them down (from A to B, airline, flight number, class of service).

When you call Qantas, you say 'I'd like to make a points booking for some partner airline flights which aren't showing on line through Qantas. These are the flights I have found'.

The agent should then prompt you, segment by segment, for the flights. And they will create a booking for you.

yeah I did book thank you, did exactly what you guys have been saying, looking for a flight on BA website, and then called qantas, and told them to book this, and then who waived the booking fee for me

I actually spent two weeks looking at the BA website, and had my eyes on a certain flight, luckily is my guess it said there was one award seat left and I procrastinated for a month and to my amazement it was still avaialbe the whole time so I booked it

im asking all these questions for future reference, as I want to book again one day, and admittedly, the procedure was horrendous, staff having no idea what the site shows and doesnt to , every 2nd staff saying I cant tell you the taxes until you actually make a booking!! to me asking what the taxes to a certain destination is and to be put on hold for 20 mins to answer a simple question.....

anyway, the 3rd operator (probaly the best one) kept on saying that Malay and JAL were the only ones that dont show up on qantas website ,adn the remaining partners they would have to look up each airline manually !!!! (this is nuts)

and he said he doesnt know of a way the customer to look these up,

I just want to be able to check availablity or taxes or points requirements my self as I have the time.

does the BA website show every airline, and are there any airlines that qantas wont be a partner of??

if you guys are intending to go europe or USA how do you guys find avialabity??? I just dont trust the phone guys as many a time they tell me, "oh not a single flight avaialble during this period, they would have sold out long ago" and my response is "try this date and this airline" and they say "Oh thats odd, yes I can see it, you are very lucky" me: "Pfft"
