Personally i would leave any non-cancelling bookings until the very last minute possible. I wouldn't rush anything. Just relax and be patient. :D

Honestly, If I don't hear anything within a week I will begin the planning of my holiday, connecting flights, hotels etc... but first travel insurance lol

Likewise. I booked a flight through legitimate means, it was confirmed and I received an e-ticket.

I can't do that, I have to pre plan everything well in advance.
We still have a holiday to go on in 3 weeks, but I can imagine the day after coming back I will be booking and planning.

If the mistake fare had a stop or transit through the US they used to be honoured much of the time because the US Dept of Transport had influence over airlines, it was a bigger step for an airline to unilaterally not honour a mistake fare but the odd airline still did it, but recently the US DOT i think said they weren't going to enforce obvious mistake fares, or that there were going to be changes motted so that they wouldn't which has made it easier for airlines to just cancel these fares...

Some still get honoured, other times they often get cancelled...

I think these days it is very much a case of how many $$$$ are involved. With the viral way these mistake fares are now exploited so quickly and comprehensively it can often mean that the airline involved can be taking a massive hit if honoured. Hence my perception that mistake fares are more commonly not honoured today where the airline would be making a loss than they were in the past. However if the coughulative $$$$ of all bookings is not too large the airline will wear it as goodwill, or even advertising.

In this case I think it may depend on exactly how many fares were booked.

I'm not sure I'd take that as gospel. A statement from VA we could believe, but I'm not going to be the one asking them to issue it.

Of those who booked, who has the earliest travel date? My departure is 26 Mar, so I'm happy to report in from the airport.

Anyone with an earlier departure date?

Well that forum seems to indicates those bookings not ticketed (in time or for some other issue like CC) have been cancelled. It implies those that were ticketed have not been cancelled and are unlikely to be.

Yeah, not sure what that tells us. Those bookings would have been cancelled anyway, wouldn't they?

Data point for you all. My flight was cancelled after it was ticketed and payment was accepted by Orbitz. No email saying it was cancelled, just a cancelled booking and a refund to my credit card.

Needless to say I'm extremely disappointed. Hopefully I will be the exception rather than the rule.

Really sorry to hear that! When did you book it? And when did you notice the cancellation?

That is completely unacceptable that there has been no communication with you prior to cancellation.

That sucks, fingers crossed for the rest of us.
was the booking showing in your VA account?

Booked about 8PM Perth time. Ticketed maybe an hour or so later. I only noticed the cancellation this afternoon so maybe the email is queued? I could only imagine someone not getting told and heading to the airport only to find out it got cancelled.

That is very coughpy.

I mean, we get a phone call about a 30 minute schedule change, but not for an entirely cancelled booking?!

Well, no ... The time between my booking 'request' confirmation email and booking 'confirmation' with e-ticket was about 15 minutes.

The article suggests that those who booked shortly before the time when this was pulled were not ticketed where otherwise they normally would have been. Later on these received booking 'cancellation' emails.

In any case given, scottz95 posts that article may indeed be rather optimistic.
