Fares dead peoples. Gratz to all those who got on board. Hopefully they honour it.

As a side point, I see all these blogs that posted it and made it out they had found it. Very lame. Only seen one that referred to AFF :(

I would not call VA about this in a million years. I'm pretty sure they'll get in contact with us if/when they need to ;)

I've sinned already on this. I called up VA last night within minutes of ticketing to get my velocity number linked as Orbitz didn't transfer my number through correctly. Around 8:30pm Perth time when this thread was going strong. The agent on the other end didn't seem to care. So I'm thinking I might phone up shortly and move to extra legroom seating if its possible. Although I think the seats were blocked on my flight :-/

what makes you think there is no IFE? There's a screen for every seat!
Thanks. I vaguely recall hearing something similar.

It will be my first long haul with VA. I wonder if it's worth trying to get bulkhead seats allocated. Or if possible to pay for exit rows? Leave it for a few days for the dust to settle.

These are some of the international blogs that I saw pick it up:

Hurry, I Booked A Flight From Sydney to Los Angeles for $148.56! - Angelina Travels

GREAT DEAL! Australia to the U.S. for $251 RT or $148 One-Way! - Miles to Memories

Crazy good deal - Australia to the US for $150! - Points with a Crew

DansDeals.com » Blog Archive » HURRY! Virgin Australia: Sydney To Los Angeles For $148 One-Way Or $251 Round-Trip! Los Angeles To Sydney For $591 Round-Trip!

Deal Alert: Fly from Australia to the US for $162 One-Way - Points Miles & Martinis

Meanwhile, yours truly wrote a blog post and credited to to AFF (love this community!) - this is below:

Virgin Australia – Return flights to US from USD254! (ACT QUICKLY) | travelhackables

A disclaimer - my friends and I recently started this casual travelhack blog to write the best deals/hacks we find, and thought that this is something worth writing a blog post for (mainly for our friends and family). Thanks so much for picking it up the deal and sharing with us, Moindardt! Thanks for visiting/reading!

I shared it on my (closed) Facebook group immediately you posted and quite a few people jumped on it.
I did of course credit it to your post on AFF. I always credit my sources.

I'd say the blogs got hold of it from your post on FT.

Yep - no offence - but the bloggers don't read AFF.

They do however ALL read FT - and each other.

Please don't think it was about me. Many of the blogs had comments and figures provided by other people in the post or on the FT one (eg the LAX-SYD @ $400 and SYD-LAX @$129). I just find it disgusting that a community like this shares it, explores all the possibilities and they swoop in and make money from other people while pretending to be omnipotent. I found this forum and FT from posts on blogs where they credited it to those forums and have benefited no end from it and think the more the merrier.

I am going to be adding more blogs to my follow list because of this, but prefer the people who think about their audience rather than themselves.

*rant over* :)

Oh great that you are doing it for altruistic reasons then for "family and friends", as opposed to wanting to set up a site to earn credit card (and other ) commissions like most of the other bloggers. Interesting then that for your "family and friends" that you look still be seeking to earn commssions off them going forward.

Disclosure

Some links to credit cards and other products on this Website (travelhackables.com) may earn a commission or referral for referring you to the services of that provider (which includes a credit provider).

If you want to be a blogger that is cool. But please don't pretend to only to be doing it for "family and friends".

Thanks for the feedback - we just added that so that our audience (which initially is our friends + family) know that we may be getting a commission. hopefully they will tell their networks about the deals that we post, so it is all about full disclosure for us from the start to everyone visiting the site :)

Yesterday VA dispatched email "Up to triple Points on your next LA adventure" offering double points in Y bookings had exclusion between 01 June and 17 July. Was the "mistake" fare available during the blockout period?

If it is about "full disclosure" and "integrity" then if your intent is to build a site and traffic to it to earn commssions down the track (as it is with most bloggers and given you are now using words now like "initially") then please just go with that rather than the site being for "family and friends".

Bloggers are part of todays world. The successful ones don't treat potential readers as sheep or fools.

Going on the dates there would have been some overlap.

Well i booked the cheap flight within the bonus dates and then activated the deal with Virgin. Hopefully get lucky on both counts as well as the family pooling.

It may have been better to activate the deal with Virgin first....
Hopefully being on the same day it will still count for you. Normally promos only work with "after".

Yes it was. The fare I booked was within that period.

While I didn't take advantage of this fare I'd like to thank the OP for posting the info here.
