At some point we may want to have a first post or wiki or something on this thread where we can put our dates in if you feel like seeing if anyone else is travelling on your date for a chat or lounge access or something...

Great thanks to the OP. I managed to get 4 return direct flight tickets to LA for just as the same price as one return flight to Europe! dep on 31/05 ret on 06/06! USA is never on my travel list, esp consider the strong USD. but since the flight is soo cheap, couldnt resist not to book it :D

Just out of curiosity, do airlines generally honour the incorrect pricing or are they able to cancel the ticket/refund without any warning?

I called Virgin and added all four of our Velocity numbers to the booking which added to my account straight away.
I wasn't able to select seats online, I called back and they selected the seats for me (row 36) all shows in my Velocity account now.

Spoke to my GM who had already seen my Facebook post and expected me to hit him up for time off, so that's all done.. now to explain to the schools.

Because I am new to this, my understanding is I can pool both FF points and the status credits for my family?
so with 4 of us doing BNE-SYD-LAX-BNE.
is that enough for silver?

It depends. Historically they were almost all honoured - afterall what is the difference between a sale and an error/mistake. In the last 12mths a number have been cancelled, including in the US where buyers seem to have the most protection.
This one is a weird case in that the fare seems to have only been available via a single OTA, but billed directly by the airline.

Id expect some news within 48hrs.

I think with that itinerary you will be looking at about 90 SCs each and with Silver being 250 SCs i think you should manage it...

If the mistake fare had a stop or transit through the US they used to be honoured much of the time because the US Dept of Transport had influence over airlines, it was a bigger step for an airline to unilaterally not honour a mistake fare but the odd airline still did it, but recently the US DOT i think said they weren't going to enforce obvious mistake fares, or that there were going to be changes motted so that they wouldn't which has made it easier for airlines to just cancel these fares...

Some still get honoured, other times they often get cancelled...

4 x 90 = 360.

You get the two 'eligible' segments as well (three actually) and they can't be pooled.

Pretty much all agents have the ability to use the airline's merchant to charge a customer's card. Many OTAs do this because it means they don't have to deal with the loss in merchant fees when using their own merchant facilities.

It's still an Orbitz booking regardless regardless who hits the credit card.

This mistake fare was actually a negotiated nett fare - it's not a published public fare, which is why other OTAs didn't have it.

No, no, no, no, no, no.

Not, ever, mistake (or error) fare.

That's my take. At what point do you feel safe though? A week from now? Check-in? Boarding? Door closed?
Honestly, If I don't hear anything within a week I will begin the planning of my holiday, connecting flights, hotels etc... but first travel insurance lol
