My flights are in 2 days time. I think I chose seats 25D and 25C originally via Orbitz. I cannot go into my booking online with Virgin.

Is it worth calling Virgin to try and improve those seats as there are empty aisles in row 20/21? Too risky? Has anyone else called?

I would. I've called and allocated seats and added VFF number - no problems.

Not risky at all! I called the platinum line the same night I booked the fare to allocate me and my friend (on a separate booking, but same deal) next to each other in the bulkhead. Not a problem and had a great trip!

JohnK, I always use you as my example when someone tells me I was crazy for "such a quick trip to the US".

"Are you kidding? Some people will just do a turnaround!"

"A what?"

Just an update to confirm that we have just gotten back from our trip. No problems with the tickets - in fact, we upgraded to Premium in both directions (my thoughts of this "premium economy" are an entirely different matter!).

Not withstanding, we had a great visit to LA and the new TBIT is a marvel compared to the old terminal! The ground staff at LAX are pretty ordinary though.

Regretting the same day turnaround now. Should have stayed a couple of nights and had a couple of games of golf.

The decision was so rushed but should still have fun spending 27.5 hours in economy in 2 days. I figure that Virgin is almost paying me to fly when you consider the FF points, duty free tobacco and alcohol. ;)

Premium economy is average to say the least?
Ground staff are poor in LAX.... That's being generous! Total cost all up with airport \car parking \departure tax fees?
How much did you save duty free?

Some may not agree but I don't find USD750 appealing for a slightly bigger seat.

Paid ~AUD375 for airfare. Will earn ~15,000 Velocity points and probably save ~AUD100 with duty free tobacco and alcohol. I am hiring a car tonight for 1 day to take to airport early tomorrow and that costs ~AUD75 with fuel and earns 2,000 UA MileagePlus miles and bus/train Monday morning back to apartment costs ~AUD5.

Orbitz gave me rubbish seating - I did call about a week later to secure 20H ...

what was the cost of the upgrade?

I flew over a few weeks ago and got a window seat and two spare seats next to it so that wasn't too bad, i got a window seat with two teenagers next to be on the way back, not that they were too bad, but was eventually counting the moments till i got back...

While over there i got a motor home and drove from Orlando to LA....

Think it will be back to business or first for my next trip...

Can't believe JohnK was going to fly to the US and pretty much straight back. How did it end up going?

Why what happened? I had visions of his first flight being delayed and then him missing the return leg? Did he have some problems with authorities questioning why he was returning so soon?

Apart from that it was grab your passport, and go. He flies all the time so obviously would have an ESTA already which I know can be an issue for some people.

yeah, obviously that wouldn't have been an issue....

There's flying all the time, and then there's flying all the time to the USA...

The selling of the first five rows for a premium makes for a challenge. .

Have allocated 20H but have been advised 21C is better.

Will need to consider if I can call and move at no charge as I'm already 'in the zone' ...
